Potential Drought problems this summer

Just seen on the news that they are having a drought summit today. Nothing for the jocks to worry about, seems you've had plenty of rainfall however the south east, east anglia and the midlands are facing the worst drought for 35 yrs this summer with many reservoirs at very low levels.

Likely to be some knock on effect for golf clubs who don't have their own water sources, I know we have limitations of how much water we can use each year and with many courses getting too dry last yr those especially are likely to really struggle

We have 3 lakes/reservoirs that we use for fringe and green watering. They look very low on water at the moment.

I'm not particularly feeling much sympathy as I'm sat at home, looking out of the window, watching it constantly raining. Too dry or too wet. You decide.

Our course stood up really well through last summer although the 1st and 18th were quite parched and burnt. We have plenty of water around the place though!

Do any courses really have their own water source though?

Our course is called Beedles Lake. We have a very large lake (an old quarry) as part of the grounds although it doesn't feature on any holes. The owners of the club own the land that it is on, but the water board 'own' the water that fills it.

It seems an odd set up to me, but we can't just use as much water from our own lake as we like because we don't own the water!

We have a bore hole, but are only allowed to take a certain amount of water from it.

Not sure what we have. A couple of small ponds but don't think we have access to anything we can use long term. Still I remember the summer of 76 and my dad was out playing all summer without a problem. As long as the greens are watered I don't really care about playing off dry fairways. Makes it a bit linksy and will reward better ball strikers.

Belton Park does. They have an irrigation pond (which is massive) that they installed around 10 or 12 years ago, and since then the course has been in incredible condition year on year. It's also positioned to the left of the 13th Tee, so anything pulled is wet. Don't want to go too far right either as the rough is thick and long...Luckily I coasted one slap bang in the middle of the fairway on saturday....then bladed my second shot into the ditch that runs across the front of the green

we in the north west have had rain on and off since September so should be no water shortage for us,unless north west water decides to sell it to the south and leave us short.

In Cumbria I think the longest we have gone without rain is about a week and that is since last April. I have started to grow webbed feet

It was quite bad,the bypass beside us was shut due to a car aquaplaning and killing the driver,just belted down.
Played parc golf club a couple of weeks back and it was seriously boggy,I'm hoping for a great summer with not much rain!

That was nasty, I was coming home and saw on the motorway signs that the road had been closed due to an accident, saw the following day that the driver had been killed.

Its about time we had a water grid, so we can transfer large volumes water from wet areas to dry areas

Either that or build a couple of desalination plants in Norfolk. Sea levels are rising so there is plenty of it about.

How come really hot places like Greece havnt got any money, but never seem to run out of water

whoa hang on fragger,why should we let the southerners have our water they laugh when they see the forecast and see its raining up north and what about us trudging around in the bloody stuff wet grips soaking feet NO when they can share the sunshine we will share our water .
