Hi guys, got a lads weekend to Portugal this week. None of us have been before. We are playing Vale de lobo, laguna vilamoura, pinhal vilamoura.

What should we expect golf wise? Any suggestions, tips or thoughts much appreciated! Thanks.

Drink lots of water!

I found the clubs pretty relaxed in regards to attire. Soft spikes fine in all the clubhouses we've been in. Generally try n get there a little early have encountered a few starters that want you there very promptly.

Just back from Portugal today. Played 5 courses over a week, including Pinhal last Thursday. It was playing very nicely. Greens were in decent nick, maybe a little slower than we expected, but a smooth roll and consistent across the course. And the rest of the course was in good condition too. Everything was very relaxed and friendly in the clubhouse and the course. Pinhal isn't a difficult walk but there are definitely a few long walks between holes so you might want to think about buggies (€45 iirc).

In general, bring/buy lots and lots of water. Be prepared for a slowish round and just remember you're on holiday. If you do get a quick one it'll be a bonus.

Also, for Pinhal in particular (and any others with umbrella pines, can't remember the other two) - you CANNOT hit through the canopy ever. The ball will drop dead (probably) or stay up there (possibly). Don't even think of hitting the hero shot if it's remotely high!

I do love it out there :)
