Playing better than you score....

A good long game never = a good score

Agree with this 100%

Ballox if you are shanking slicing topping your way round with low irons/hybrids you will NEVER score well no matter how good your short game is. Agreed a good short game is more important but if I am getting the ball on the green from 180+yds and 2 putting I reckon that would give you a good score.

Been saying on here for months how well I've struck it without making a score. The reason was the short game was holding me back and when I did miss greens I was wasting shots getting up and down. It is definitely possible to play good golf and not get any reward for it. Its not particularly rewarding in terms of winning anything or getting a cut (I've kept going up) but it is good to know the game is there or there abouts. In my case the short game is slowly catching up and I'm holing a few putts again so hopefully I'll get the rewards of good striking and scoring

Agree entirely with Homer on this one. Similar to another recent post if I remember rightly. For me, striking the ball well is a major buzz and when I am connecting properly then I feel like I am playing well. If I am going to drop strokes then, the lesser of two evils, I would rather through a heavy-handed short game than hitting a selection of fats, thins and tops from long range.

Played again this evening and it was a better score (just) but the standout problem tonight was my putting. Absolutely pathetic and I seem to have lost all confidence all of a sudden. I was finding the line more often than not but I was either woefully short or firing the ball past the hole. I simply could not get the pace right and made no putts outside 5 feet. Everything else felt pretty good but at least tonight I could see the problem, so might have a putting lesson on Saturday. Straight to the putting green after work tomorrow night and I'm seriously considering a V-Easy! :p
