Jeez it was windy!
Partnered Hywel (HTL) in a betterball matchplay against a couple of members there as my "usual" playing partner is out with an injured arm. The course was in superb condition with fairways like carpets and the greens were a pleasure to putt on.
Hywel enjoyed his first visit to the course and played really well (unlike me!) as he scored 36 points playing off the whites and had 3 blobs!
The two guys we played against (Paul off 13 and his brother Dave off 9) played some superb golf between them with Dave getting four birdies in total, three of them on the trot! That really took the wind out of our sails, and despite Hywel playing some super golf on the back 9 in particular, we couldn't hold off a 2&1 defeat.
A good day out, but as I say...a tad windy. Last time I played there I knocked a nice drive down the first and followed it up with an easy 9 iron. Yesterday? The best drive I could muster and a 6 iron came up short!

As an aside, Paul has invited me to Bearwoods on Saturday 30th May to play in a big charity day there. Some celebrities are going to be playing, including Ray Clemence, Ossie Ardiles, Ricky Villa, Warren Clarke (from Dalziel & Pascoe) plus a few others who I can't remember who they are!!
Good evening "do" too, with Bobby Davro lined up for the cabaret act. The missus is really looking forward to attending, and has polished her wellies up especially for the occasion! Really looking forward to it. Let's just hope the weather is a litle more benign.

Sounds nice. It is on my list to play, but somehow the opportunity has never come up. Glad you had a good time, but a loss, hmm. That shouldn't happen.

Good fair review mate. The course really was superb, I played it back in my mind last night and I love it. We got beat by the better team yesterday, nothing we could do about it. 3 birdies in a row were also the killer blow at Leatherhead. :D

I played there recently and the whole club is class. It is pretty impressive from the practice ground, locker rooms and clubhouse through to the course which is my number one all time favourite and is simply awesome. The great thing is the members aren't up themselves like you get at other so called fancy clubs.

Its good to see my partner HTL still playing well. His game has really come on recently and his handicap will be down to 12-13 soon. I know from being on the right side of 3 consecutive birdies at Leatherhead last weekend how it can simply kill the game off and is so hard to come back from. That said in the GM challenge last year RGuk and I were hit by 5 birdies in 7 holes by Jezz Ellwood and his partner.

I'd go along with that.
Some guy on Sunday actually asked if I'd mind if he parked his Porsche Carrera next to my W reg Escort.
I don't think he was taking the piss
