...... and good fun it was too at the start of our golf week

For those who don't know it. Team of 2, half combined handicap and stableford. Both players tee off, each plays from the others tee shot and, thereafter, one ball is selected to play alternate shots with until the hole is finished.

We shot 23 points on the first 9 (h/caps 11+23) and only 16 on the back 9 with a poorer back 9 display but I did enjoy it as well as the company. 45 points were in when I left and betterball fourball tomorrow. I am stiff as a board at the moment!
Have you played this format and what do you make of it?

Not played that, but our next comp is greensomes on Saturday, foursomes on Sunday, and then better ball the following Saturday. Tough comp to win. Foursomes always does for me. Two years ago scored 41, 26, 42. I hate foursomes.

We are playing Irish greens somes today pairs both tee off both hit your next shot pick the next closest ball then alternate shots

I thought American foursomes was just regular foursomes except everyone rides in carts, smokes cigars and shouts "In the hole" and "You da man" at every possible opportunity.

We play this format in one of the Turkey comps in December. It gets players around the course quicker, ideal as a winter game. I like it.

Chrisd.

According to many posters on here you played PAIRS!!

How I dislike the word pairs when it is used in golf.
A message to all the golfers who use the name pairs instead of better ball, foursomes or now American foursomes. Do you not realise that it makes you look like a numpty or a complete beginner.

BTW looks like American foursomes is fun.

I might be missing the point but no one used the word "pairs". Does it really matter as we were playing as a pair? There are a lot more numpty comments on the forum than that to get annoyed about -!
