PING Irons

That is as honest an assessment I have read on here in the last year, and I own a set which I was custom fitted for at Gainsboro. ( brilliant experience). Such honesty from virtuosity has no place on this forum 😁👍
That aside, the pings I bought ( Gmax) although not a patch on looks compared to my previous Titleist 714s for me are a far superior club. When it comes to forgiveness and distance. However and this is a massive however. Because of the large sole they are dire when chipping in and around the green. I have been getting better but the sole of the clubs when chipping just seem to bounce. That aside my wedge play is getting better with my Vokeys.
What I will say is I occasionally see people playing with Older pings and I think they look a thing of beauty, akin to looking at a classic car.
What has been difficult for me to get my head around is seeing a distance on my sat nav watch and thinking with my titleist it would be a 7 iron but now an 8 or nine with Ping, but also with better flight and height.

I've found chipping to be better TBH I have been using the wedge for 30 - 50yrd chips with great success relying on my Clevelands for longer/shorter shots.

On the chipping with the wide soled clubs, take a more lofted one (e.g. PW) and de-loft it and it then behaves much more like you would expect and the sole issue largely goes away.

I had actually thought about spending half an hour on the greens trying that out, but have not had time to try it. Never had to do that before re de loft, so it's summat I am gonna have to try and do.

Love my Ping gear. Originally got fitted for G25 irons but got rid as aesthetics didn't suit my eye especially in the short irons and went to the I25's and very happy. The G25 driver is excellent. If and when I upgrade again Ping will be the first make I look at

In my experience I found chipping the long chip and run shots difficult to judge as the ball flew off the face so fast....I could not bring myself to hit them that soft....but this was merely a practice issue. I did/do love my i20s which i still have. I found the i25s ball flight a little high for me as i tend to pop it up anyway. The i15s were also great and won a lot of goodies with them including a trip to Dubai for a week in the Matchplay Championships.

And as far as the woods go they are the business. (Switched from TM).

I have the G30 1, 3,5 and 3 iron hybrid which are like throwing darts. A PP said to me once that I was more accurate with my 3 and 5 woods than most people with their wedges....a slight exaggeration but took it as a huge compliment.

Cant go wrong with Ping...just make sure you get on with their shafts.....

I got a set of G5 iron heads and got them fitted to the UST gold and purple graphite shafts from a few years back (cant remember their name) but those were sweet to hit, effortless.

Had the i10's for quite a few years now. Best irons I've ever had. They do seem to bring out the next versions very quickly though. i15's were just out when I got my 10's (ex display). I tried both, found no difference playing wise and preferred the look of the 10's tbh. Think there's a lot of change for changes sake with Ping (woods too) but all good clubs.

I'm thinking about buying some Ping I-E1 irons but just wondering if anybody knows the production cycle?

Will the IE-2's be out soon'ish?

I have an old set of Stainless steel Ping Eye 2s 3 to SW with zz lite shafts that I play regularly, in my opinion they are the best clubs that Ping ever made and they are as good as anything on the market today.
The SW is a really useful tool as its so easy to open the face right up and play a flop shot when you need one.

The normal cycle for the Ping G series is 18 months (irons, woods, hybrids etc.) and I think it's the same with the I series, so guessing there will probably be a replacement for the I E1 around the start of 2017.

Well i have to sheepishly admit that I still play my Ping i3's, black dot with the standard steel shafts they arrived with.
I've dabbled with changing them purely for an update but usually the gains I would get didn't justify the outlay.
I'm not sure if that is a ringing endorsement of Ping clubs or a damning indictment of my swing though.....

Managed to try a Ping I blade demo 7 iron tonight with Project X 6.0 shaft. Pleasantly surprised how easy that was to hit (not sure what happens when you get to a 5 or 4 iron in my hands). A stiffer shaft than I'd use and hard to see how far it was going compred to the I 7 iron as there was a nagging slope in front of the bay which made it hard to see the ball landing. The new blade felt shorter but it didn't feel by a lot. I thought when it was announced it would be a proper golfer's club but even a muppet like me got the 7 at least airborne and straight. Lovely soft feel off the face too. My club have a Ping demo day soon too.......
