Going to gainsborough in a couple of weeks, round trip of 360 miles so I hope it will be worth it.

Anyone had experience of a visit to Ping and what should I be looking for please? I am probably going to spend about £1k.

Funny you should mention Ping Fitting - I'm about to try and book a fitting end of Feb / early March - that's the earliest they can manage! Apparently they're very busy at the moment.

I was speeking to our area Ping Rep today about the service they offer. Basically (as I understand it) the main difference between getting fitted at Gainsborough rather than your local dealer is that at Gainsborough they will have demo clubs in every combination of what you might be best suited to, i.e. length of shaft, type of shaft, type of grip, lie of club head etc etc.

What clubs are you considering at the moment? I think it is definately worthwhile - I will have to travel from the midlands for the fitting.

When you get your irons fitted make sure they put you on a lie board, which im sure they will as your going to them. As opposed to measuring you and choosing off a chart!
Also a good tip on your way pop into a titleist or mizuno retailers and make sure you spend all your money before you get to gainsborough hahaha lol

Cheers. looking for G10 and I understand they now have hybrid upto a 6 iron.

Also I have to book through my pro and It is difficult to guess the cost as all he is doing is acting as a Post Box and charging what he wants!

a 6 iron is a golf club. its not a hard to hit club its an average iron. All this hybrid nonsense is getting out of hand soon people wont have any irons in the bag. fair enough the advantages of 2 ,3 iron replacements because they're harder for some to get in the air and land softly but a 6iron is well out of that category!

Hi 3offthetee.
I went to gainsborough in November. The technician who fitted me was very good(Ben Sherriff)
They will ask you about your game etc to get a general idea of the club that may suit you. They will measure shaft length and grip size.Hel make a suggestion about irons and get you to hit down on the board to get an idea of lies and lofts and get you to hit a few.

They use the tracman for your ball flight etc on your woods.
I went through lots of different shafts etc.
You can make an order for your clubs there and then. And once they are ready they are sent out to you, mine were delivered to my club.Took about 3 weeks in total.

I recommend the fitting and you will have a great day and keep your eyes closed when u go in the shop or you will spend a fortune lol.

MVP. I take exception to your comments. If that is the best constructive comment perhaps you should look at a children's site. For you information I had a trial with a Premiership Football Club and played squash at County standard.

Nobody said I could not hit a 6 iron; I was merely making a comment.

The idea of golf is that the individual uses what is best for them and whether I use a hybrid or a pitching wedge to hit the ball 140 metres it is no concern of yours.

Thank you

Listen First of all my post was never directed at you it was directed at manufacturers for bringing in 6iron hybrids. If you feel so strong about that why dont you go and have a go at all the people who dont like belly putters and chippers as well. Because their points are the same. My opinion is my opinion if its posted on this forum it IS a CONCERN to me as this is where we discuss posts!. And I really really couldnt care less if you had trials for barcelona and played squash for fun or for england i'd still think a 6iron hybrid is stupid!
End of.

What im trying to get at is all these easy to hit irons/hybrids are taking the skill factor away form the game. Ok i got a 1 iron replacement but to have a set of hybrids down to 6 to me is stepping the mark. Maybe it is the future and No one will use blades in 10 years time?? I dont know but there you go

If you take a closer look at your post you recommended that anyone who couldn't hit a 6 iron should look to take up a different sport. It's no less ridiculous than my post, with the exception that that was my intention.
