I was out for a walk yesterday at the other end of our village and spotted what has happened to petrol prices.

Shame I cannot take advantage, did my usual Monday top up of the tank the day before lock down.

I filled up yesterday for the 1st in a couple of weeks, £10 less than normal for a full tank.

When I last parked the car outside I'd used about 74 miles from a full tank......

That was 2 weeks ago.........

Would normally have filled up twice, maybe 3 times, in that time

I see it reported one UK garage has managed to get the unleaded price to 99p. The shell opposite tescos here, still at 121.9p this morning! Its always expensive here but thats taking the utter proverbial! Anyone do better than 99p or worse than 121.9p????

Petrol is 102 at my local garage, I filled up with evil diesel at 108p this morning.

I can guarantee that the garage on the A1 northbound, I think it is a Texaco, near Washington will top whatever you find. I would not be surprised if they are selling at 140p +. They are regularly 20-30p per litre more than any other fuel station that I see. It captures company car drivers with accounts who don't care or the desperate who need fuel and have not seen a stop for a while. The A1 in that area is not well blessed and they take advantage. Beezerk may have passed it recently and know what the price is.

Got to take the Mrs to the hospital tomorrow, then pick her up after her appointment

Might just fill up the car on the way just to take advantage of the prices ... Might aswell have 2 full tanks lol

Isn't that like most services or garages on main artery carriageways?
I did read it has something to do with the greater costs of rent and the like running those places.

Not been out, but a quick look on Waze with locally refreshed fuel. Newbury is typically more expensive than towns locally as we have only 5 petrol stations for a fairly decent sized town, 3 of them are supermarkets. One texaco I never use as they constantly in the news for skimming cards and the other BP is out of the way.

Anyway, enough of the history of petrol station in Newbury (fcuk I'm bored) Unleaded is between 108.9 and 150.9!!! (I am within 5 miles of J13 M4 services!)

Even allowing for that, and you are quite right about the extra costs, that particular place still takes my breath away every time. I've done journeys before all over the country passing equivalent places, service stations etc and that one is always a mile more expensive. It is one of those where you do a double take ?

I've always been told by petrol heads that super market fuel isn't as good (it meets the standard) but places like BP , shell etc add additives to the fuel which help clean your engine .

Supermarket make very little on fuel they use the price to get people through door. .. plus they have their rent in place for their stores anyways .

I will add to this that I have never had an issue with super market fuel in like 16 years of driving and use it more often than not as it's on my route to work.

But that's part the price difference I believe rent and what they add to it

Try Clacketts Lane services on the M25. Then you will know shafting when it comes to petrol prices.:)

The only time I have had an issue after filling up was years ago, when having filled the van up it broke down as there was so much loose crap in the fuel. Had to be recovered, fixed and the tank of fuel replaced.
That was the one and only time I have filled up at a supermarket.

I often fill up at Clackett, its 5 mins from home and on the way to work.
Prices are eye watering but I have a fuel card, so in reality it makes no difference what they charge, I pay my weekly rate.

However, recently changed the car, filled up with super unleaded at some extortionate rate of £1.66 a litre only to get a copy invoice a week or so later showing I had in fact paid £1.66.
Quick call to the fuel people reveals they forgot to tell me I get no deal on super unleaded, just standard and diesel.
Expensive school boy error
Ouch...

Like I said, I've had a few petrol heads tell me this
I've had one person say he had a problem

Everyone else I know who uses them for many many miles no issues

Guess it's chances you take
