Evening all,
I had this book in my hand today in Easons.....Cost nearly 27 euros but i said id hold off until i ran it on the Forum to see if anyone has bought it.

Is it any good?
Its one of my main goals for the 2011 season.
I want to become deadly accurate from 100mtrs in...
Im aware that you CANT buy a game but anything that might give me a better understanding or an edge would be gladly welcome.

He can get quite technical at times ( he was an engineer) but if you understand what he's saying and can relate t it, It's definately worht a punt.

Same with the Putting Bible.

I think there are some good ideas but going the full hog is too much for players in the UK and Ireland. It might be OK in Florida where everyone plays everything to yardage and conditions are much more consistent.

€27 sounds like a lot. Can't you get on one ebay cheaper?

Better still. Email me your address and I will send you one I haven't looked at for a couple of years.

It's really good and you get as much detail as you like from it. The main things i got from it were the wedge distance control, 1/4 swing, 1/2 swing and 3/4 swing with 4 different wedges gives me 12 distances in calm conditions. And, the short game handicap test.
He explains his theory and why he thinks people are bad at chipping and pitching.

Great book. Has been the basis of my short game for years. When i first purchased it a few years ago my handicap was 18. Having applied his advice and with a little practice i am now down to 9.

For a non feel player like me its a gem

This book is a SERIOUS handicap reducer !

Many people think it is just teh 4 wedge 7.30,9, 10.30 thing, but actually there is a lot lot more in here.

90% of golfers will get huge amounts from this book.

His Putting Bible is more Marmite - you eitehr believe his theory on pendulum strokes or you dont, you either believe his theory or not of dying the ball into the whole .
But it is a really good section on the amount of borrow to take.

BUt imho , the real shot saver in his portfolio is his most recent book - Damage Control. Extremely sounds theory that >90% of golfers do not follow. Which is why they are still in high double figures handicaps :)

The other great thing about Dave pelz, is that in his books he encourages you to email him and he emails you back !!! Well at least someone at teh end of his email address emails back and signs it "Dave" :)

putting bible and short game bible are fantastic books, i have them both and tend to read them quite regularly. can be very technical as people have already said but it depends how your brain works, i find them very beneficial because i too am an engineer and can see quite clearly the ways he explains things but the best bit for me about them is he isnt just some guy telling how he "thinks" it should be played, hes actually gone out and tested his theories and has evidence to back up his claims.

The short game book I liked but the putting one left me cold (lumpy donut?). He has a very analytical (engineering background) approach and some of it is very dry but the concept and the theory is good. It has certainly given me some good advice over the years and I do find myself flicking back through it every now and then

I bought it a few years ago and found it really hard going.

It did lead to a story though:

I was playing my usual 4BBB with my regular partner who was having his usual dose of the yips, he was 3 to 5 putting every green!

After a 5 putt on the 11th I tactfully suggested that he might like to borrow my copy of the Dave Peltz Putting Bible. He told me in no uncertain terms what to do with the book as he didn't think that reading a book would solve his problems.

All I could think to say was that I wasn't suggesting he read it, but if he put it behind the cup it might stop his ball going so fecking far past!!!
