I must admit that i have not looked before posting this. But, is left of the 18th a lateral water hazard, or penalty area, call it what you want depending on how old you are. If the tide is in and you hit your ball left goodbye pro v1 and reload. If the tide is out you can find your ball on the beach in a playable position and get it back into play without a penalty It seems a bit wrong. It should be the same penalty for everyone that hits their ball into the Pacific.

I sort of get the point, but I sort of don't; if you miss a fairway on a parkland course, sometimes you've got a shot past the tree, sometimes you're chipping out from behind it. Shouldn't it be the same penalty for both of them; they've both missed the fairway, exactly as those left of the18th at Pebble Beach.
