On holiday up in the peak district next week, looking for to play 2/3 courses midweek. Open to any suggestions from members or those who have played up there before?

Staying in a town called Ashbourne if that is any help!

EDIT: Just clicked the link above which literally states all those i mentioned

I guess to help my top 3 would be:

Cavendish, Kedleston & Chesterfield but that's my personal preference. Chesterfield and Matlock are only 5-10mins apart so could possibly swing both in dependent on plans for the day.

I live in the Peak District, there's quite a selection. I may be nit picky as I used to play Coxmoor and Hollinwell which I favour as courses, but there about an hour from you. Nevertheless theres some nice enough tracks which don't cost the earth to play.

If you’re happy to travel within half hour a few i’d Recommend and have played are:

- Cavendish GC (Designed by Alister Mackenzie, who helped design Augusta National)

- Chesterfield Golf Club (AKA Walton GC)

- Chevin

- kedleston

Breadsall priory is very corporate, not really my cup of tee but it usually has good offers on if you want to get a couple of rounds in.

I'm a member at Matlock Golf Club, which is about 20-25 mins from Ashbourne, it's a rolling course plays very strategically and it's well known for having good quality greens, fairways. If you fancy a knock around there let me know and I'll get you signed in, if you fancy company and I'm free i'll even join you.

Matlock is a busy area which motorbikes flock to with plenty to see and do as well as being a bit of a tourist hot spot. Theres a couple of local restaurants and bars if you are over that way on an evening.

Stones - Lovely restaurant, food a bit poncy at times
Herd - Amazing steakhouse, nice cocktails with views over the river (going tonight funnily enough)
Tipsy Toad - Great little Bar with a brilliant owner. Happy hour 5-7pm daily which doesn't comprise of BOGOF but him flipping a coin for each drink you purchase, if you call it you get the drink free. Best I did was a 5 drink round for nowt.

If you need any recommendations for anything let me know as we mill around the peak district all the time when myself and my partner are off work and i'm not golfing as we are national trust and chatsworth gold members.

A few of matlock below, all courses I mentioned above are pretty much on par if not slightly better tracks so you should enjoy your stay.

Derbyshire isn't blessed with many top courses, but we have some very nice ones.

In the Peak District itself you have Cavendish, a Dr McKenzie designed moorland course. Also, Buxton & High Peak which is an interesting course & Ashbourne itself, which I have been a member of. It is a very friendly club, not overly long course but with some very good par 3's and as good a final 4 holes as you could hope for (& I'm told the green have been in very good nick of late).
Matlock & Chesterfield are also not too far away, they are ranked as a couple of the best in the county.

Then in Derby itself, about 15 miles away, is Kedleston (Derby's premier club IMHO). It's a long course, with some demanding par 4's, friendly clubhouse and normally in great nick. But we've just hollow tined the greens and scarified the fairways, so isn't representative of how good it can be. We held Open qualifying last year and The McGregor Trophy, and were in the final 4 for England Golf's Tournament course of the year.

If I was to rank the top few courses in the county myself, I would say:
Kedleston
Cavendish
Chesterfield
Matlock

I'd recommend you try Cavendish

In essence, I cannot give any better advice than what some of the knowledgeable lads have posted. But I have just bought a fourball ticket for £60 for Chesterfield and have been told it's a steel as it is one of the courses to play in Derbyshire. Also I went to kedleston hall last year, the hall not the course. Quite frankly some of the views from the course to the hall itself must look stunning. I would put that on a list 👍
