Hi everyone - probably a post for Fragger but others feel free to pitch in.

11 years ago my computer died and I couldn't afford to buy what I wanted so built my own. However the CPU is really struggling now and I think it needs replacing. Back in the day I used to do PC gaming but not so much these days. So should I:

- build another one
- buy another one
- get a mac

Main purpose is for things like Game Golf and managing media files like music, photos and video. That would normally make me lean towards a mac but I use an Android phablet because I like to be able to change battery and use a memory card. I currently manage my phone media via doubletwist - does that work in mac?

Ta muchly

If u know how to build one and have the time, then build one... Nothing beats the pleasure of playing with your own toys..

My lappy died recently, did not want to fork out the millions needed for another one, so opened it and swapped hard disks et al.. works like a charm (except that the battery has now died too)

I do work from home so have a dedicated office space so don't have to worry about putting it away. Thing that worries me about laptops is storage space though I guess I could get a WiFi hard disk and create a home network...

Unless you are after a super dooper custom mega machine it's not worth building your own these days,
Look at Zoostorm if you want a decent desktop at a cutting price

Shout if you need any guidance

I have a Zoostorm and can certainly recommend them!

Board (and maybe chip?) is 32 bit and was bought just when 64 bit was being introduced, so a pretty good deal from Ebuyer (and dates it). Was running Windows 7 up until a week or so ago when I upgraded to WX. Still performs well and only shows little flicker on streamed sports.

Only problems I've had are the traditional laptop issue of power plug connection to board breaking and the hard disk dying - but was cloned easily to a new one.

Stick with a desktop. For the ability to make mid term upgrades to memory, graphics and hard drive - SSD it makes more sense.
Anyone who buys a mac these days needs their head examined in my opinion. They are too limiting, share all common components and most people fork out the extra hundreds on them to browse the Internet. .crazy!.
Windows 10 installed on a new pc running an ssd hard drive will impress 99% of the general public with its speed etc. The only thing I changed on my setup (acer aspire v17 nitro) was to install classic shell as I still prefer the traditional start menu.
