Here is my problem, every page I visit, GM, the bbc, the local paper etc etc I keep getting a message telling me IE is preventing pop ups, It's getting beyond a joke now, I run malawarebytes daily and it keeps finding adaware causing the PUP (potentially unwanted pop-up).

What can I do apart from a factory reset to stop this.

TIA

Ditch IE and use Google Chrome for a starter. But also download a free program called add blocker. I find it stops all that unwanted crap and let's you navigate around sites without restrictions.

You can also try this.

Go to control panel, User accounts.
Add a new adminstrator account, new name, password, picture, etc
Reboot machine
Go into new account.
You may need to configure a few things again like browser home page, etc but hopefully all ok?

When happy you can choose to delete your old malware infested account.

Before you do ,backup anything you want in there and dump it on a new folder in c:\ drive. You should still be able to view this same folder from your new account. Prove this first before you delete old account.

Alternatively, you can just delete the old account. It may ask you if you want to keep old files and then it should back these up for you anyhow.

Try resetting Ie

Start, control panel, Internet options, advanced, reset
Follow it through
Restart IE
Any better?

No. only happens on the my laptop, not the wifes, happens on chrome but then no malware found,

I'll give this a go over the weekend, sounds too complicated for me, so I may be back for more help

I use Mozilla Firefox and have downloaded a programme called Adblock Plus, I now get no pop-ups at all and no adverts all over the place.
