Our lovely taxman

The problem with HMRC stems from cutting back the workforce and in doing so offering huge redundancy packages which simply would not be available in the private sector (was told three times salary by a colleague who used to work for HMRC). Many of the most experienced people took the redundancy and left, leaving behind inexperienced and overworked staff. Its no wonder that the service is poor.

I will retire in July and will therefore only be on a wage for 3 months and 3 days, am I better talking to the taxman before or after I retire?

Another very threatening letter about underpaid tax for a year the we paid no wages! Told them several times!

You couldn't make it up!

Every year for the last 7 or 8 years I've had letters advising my tax code is changing. Only to then receive another letter advising that I've either overpaid or underpaid and it will be adjusted over the coming year.

Strange thing is I've been with the same employer for the last 10 and a half years.

I honestly believe that the HMRC tax system is one of the most flawed and broadly inaccurate systems in this country. I'd love to know just how wrong they get it every year.
