Playing the Kirkcaldy golf club open today, looking forward to it as this is the club where I learned the game as a junior, still the only course I have broken par on in all my years of golf. No doubt it will have changed a lot over the years and will be a lot tighter than it used to be.

Looking like a nice day too, better than last year when the open was cancelled due to heavy rain.

Warmed up nicely yesterday going round the back 9 of my home course in 2 under par  so roll on the 2.28 start time.

Will update you on my progress later (depending on my mood) :D

I learned my golf there too. :D
1970 mind you lol
Say hello to Anthony Caira the head pro. Tell him Bob Mcarthur said hello.
Look out for that first tee shot, its a cracker :)
Have you played the course since they added a new 18th hole?

What a joke !!!

Due to tee off at 2.28, hit my first ball at approx 3.20. Out in 39, 4 over with the easier of the 2 nines to come, got to the 10th tee, a short driveable par 4 for most players, with one group on the green and another 2 groups waiting on the tee, this over 2 hours into an already 1 hour delayed game. At that point I walked off the course in disgust.

Will not be taking part in this event next year.

Seems part of the whole open day thing - I have found that its generally a 4-5 hour round, tho I have never had a late start time, it must be due to tight tee times and the popularity.

I've not played open events for years but I never use to have a problem. Was the field just too big or was there a problem with the general pace of play. Nothing worse than getting some semblance of a good rhythm and then waiting 20 minutes on a tee box. It kills the round (for me anyway) and I can never find the same tempo again. I would have thought 4 hours for a competition (even 4 1/2) would have been acceptable

I think they were just trying to get too many players in, tee times were set at 6 minute intervals, 10 mins seems to be more the norm these days. There was a bit of a backlog on the 2nd tee (230 yard par 3) which is what started to cause delayed tee times. However nearly an hour late by early afternoon is a joke in my book.

The final straw came at the 10th, 278 yard par 4 playing downbreeze and downhill, (I would have hit 3 wood off the tee to reach green) there was a group putting out and another 2 waiting on the tee, would have been a good 30 min wait to tee off, as I said this was over 2 1/4 hours into a reasonably short front 9 which IMO should have taken 1 3/4 hours max.

Time was not on my side as I had plans for the evening and decided to call it a day early, pity as I recon I could have gone on to shave 0.2 or 0.4 off the handicap.
