Went out today for our 2nd to last Xmas Bash Stableford roll up competition, having carded recent 32, 33 and and appalling 22 last weekend. Went to the range before hand and nothing was really going right. It was cold and breezy and I didn't have a woolly hat, so had to buy one from the pro shop... Good thing too! Bloody cold.

But.... I managed to scramble together 39 points, with 2 blobs and threw away the win on the 18th after hitting the fairway with the longest drive, but hooking my approach onto the 1st and hitting and then missing an easy putt ending with 1 disappointing point...

Everything seemed to be going well, especially off the tee, I was hitting it pretty long and straight down the fairway on most occasions, the only thing that let me down was around the green chipping, just wasn't committing. I missed a 4 foot putt for a 2 on a par 3 just hitting the left edge of the cup.

We worked it out that had I have not blobbed 2 holes and chipped better around the green I could have easily got 44 points. Shame really, but I enjoyed it and a cut will be coming my way... yippee!

thats good going with 2 blobs, just shows you how much of a change it can be from week to week,to have 22 pts previously and then is....good going!!!

Well done Philly...I had a really enjoyable day today.....won our 1/4 final foursomes 2&1 closing it out with a tidy birdie on the par 3 17th.

Tough opposition in a couple of 8 h/cappers, we were only getting 3 shots with my partner playing off 14, so it was a satisfying win.

Then I went out and pumped one of our pro shop guys who plays off 1 over 9 holes 3&1. Was supposed to get 4 shots but only took 3 off him.

All in all a great day!! Now just getting ready to watch Tiger take the Chevron to round the day off nicely...

Apologies to anyone on the HDID forum reading this.....it will look familiar.....I just cut and paste to avoid typing it out again..... :D

Wd Phil and nice work Rick

Had a winter knockout matchplay game today against 2 18 handicappers who managed to produce 13 pars and a birdie between them!, we just scraped home at the last in a very high standard game :)

Well done mate...who's your partner? Is it one of the GM forumers? You must have gone low to win against that type of scoring....

If your granny had balls she would have been your granda. Analysing where it went wrong is good, what ifs and could have's are worthless though. Well done breaking your handicap though.

I never worry about "would have been xx without the blobs". In a medal they might have been cricket scores and the card would have looked a lot less heatlhy. You scored what you scored and if that is good enough on the day to win or not then thats the way it is.

No harm looking back at what caused the blobs. That is good practice and may help in course management or shot selection somewhere down the line

Definetly, I know both blobs would have been averted had I not chickened out of my greenside chipping, think I was playing the ball too far back in my stance. Will work on it down the range. Should be. It though, haven't had a cut to a few rounds!
