Reminds me of a quote by Golda Meir when women were getting attacked at night and someone suggested the women should stay at home, she said something along the lines of “it’s not the women who should stay at home at night but the men”

This. I hadn't paid much attention to the case but I'm suddenly seeing in my twitter/FB feeds posts from female friends who are a bit cross and are suggesting that this should seriously be an issue for men, not for women. Have to say, I think they're right.
