I am looking to organise a trip to Munich for the 2012 Oktoberfest and wonder if any forumers have been and have any experience of it?

Will likely be with a group of mates, maybe around a handful of us and we may travel in and out of Prague and train it from there to try and save on airfares.

I have read that to get the best deals you really need to get organised about a year in advance so I am trying to set the ball rolling.

Can't tell you much about travel arrangements, but when I was in Germany in the 70's I savoured a few of the beer fests.
All I can say is,"Drink, drink and more drink".

Are you up for it? :D :D

The Oktoberfest actually starts at the end of September until early October. So you may still make it Dodger.

As The Craw said there is always a fishy to catch! :D

Had a good scoot around today and think it'll be a goer next year and will probably go through the week as the weekends seem to be stupidly busy.

Book your accom and flights ASAP.

Unless you care about living up in a hotel, stay here:

It's about a ten minute walk to the Oktoberfest field/site and is handily close to town as well in case you need it.

It's one of the better hostels I've stayed in, as long as you can manage bunk beds, unless you've got some proper wrinklies joining you on the trip.

As for the drinking itself. Get there early if you want to get a table. Once you're there, you won't have to move as the delightful bier maids Will serve you beer and food all day.

If you're in a big party, it might be privy to book a table/area with the beer tents you want to go to in advance. You will need to do this directly.

Don't be sucked in by the 4 main brewers/tents. They're generally over crowded and there's plenty of fun and decent bee to be had in the small tents.
