Played at Carden Park today , place was empty !!

Any way , one of our four is a county ref and we had an occasion when another player had to take relief from a cart path and I mentioned the recent threads on here so he went through the procedure for us and pointed out that what would seem to be the NPR wasn't always the case ( Diagram 2) and on further digging have found a link that explains it better than I can.

If you open the link in the article you get the full size version of below

Think of your stance, swing and ball position forming a square with your heels on on edge and the swing path on the opposite side. It's this entire shape that needs to be free from the obstruction and the side of the path you use depends on which 'square's' ball is closest to the original ball position.

we could clearly start another long thread quite easily!

basically I do not agree with this - as a specific example if the obstruction was between your feet but not interfering with your feet it wouldn't be interfering with your stance (or swing)

Thats fair enough, I was talking about relief from something like a path. Obviously sprinkler heads and such like are different as they're small enough to be within the 'square' but not affect your stance
