Just won a comp and unknowingly qualified for a place in next years final. Its just that this place is a 6 hour drive for 3 rounds. Is it a good course? Worth the drive?

The original course, the Hawkshill, is excellent and very challenging. The Swailend course is friendlier but still a decent enough course.

I wouldn't drive 6 hours to play the Swailend. Would I do it specifically to play the Hawkshill? Maybe for 3 rounds but not for one.

played the main course there the Hawkshead i think it was a couple of times and it was a real test off the back tee's.

One of Dave Thomas's best IMO.

it was a while ago though and the condition could have been better TBH, tee's where in a bit of a state and no bugger raked any of the bunkers...of which there where a few.

a shame, i would go back and play no question.

I've still got a free round at gleneagles to cash in so might kill two birds with one stone. Do they accept pounds sterling all the way up there 😀

I was certainly impressed with it!

My host, a member there and now a member at Royal Aberdeen, misinterpreted my comment that Hawkshill was a better playing experience than RA - RA was a joy to be beaten up by though!
