Hello everyone,

I’ve been viewing these forums for a good few months now and decided it is time to sign up J

Thought I would introduce myself……I used to play golf when I was younger with my dad (from 6-12 years old) then I played a bit casually when I was in my 20’s. I’m now 33 and have really got into it over the last 9 months, I have joined a local course and started with a 22 handicap but soon got it down to 19. I had an accident on my motorbike early January and broke my little finger (mallet finger) so I am unable to play for at least 6-8 weeks. My full time job is a physiotherapist so at least I know I can rehab myself back quickly ;)

Sucks so much not being able to play but I can still putt which is good because that is my weakest part of my game!

Nick

Welcome Nickrat, it seems that you've made a schoolboy error starting at 22 and not making hay off of 28 !!! I did the same !!!

Welcome mate.
God's of golf sending you a message about your putting are they?
I had a knee op two years back, similar situation - constantly knocking about the house with my putter trying to improve!

I used to take a big backswing and decelerate through the stroke. Been working on a short backswing and accelerating through at impact in the house (pissing the mrs off). I wasn't sure how good it would be practicing on carpet but I went up to the putting green last weekend and it was a lot better. I think a lot of it is confidence as well, had a lot of holes where I've got to green in regulation then completely messed it up 3/4 putting...... Yes i did say 4 putt!

Definitely better than a long backswing and decelerating.
Just be careful you don't get too short and start jabbing it

I probably should not comment given my lack of putting prowess over the years... but... so far as I understand "accelerating" is as much incorrect as "decelerating" is.

The correct method is get the putter to a speed and keeping it there through impact... smoothly.

This is how the "best" putters achieve distance control so consistently.

Some day I will do it myself, maybe, and I'll let you know how to do it! :)

Your story sounds similar to mine. Played infrequently through my 20s, but started getting really into it last year and playing every week (I'm 30 now). I just joined a club for the first time and got my first handicap, which is 24.

Welcome to the forum.

Welcome to the forum hope you find it of use. Sorry to hear about your accident hope you manage to get yourself back to full fitness soon (otherwise your day job is at risk lol)

I am in the Sheffield area myself if when you ar fit and ready to play again you need a playing partner let me know as long as you don't mind playing along side a woman of cause :) Am on the Golfit scheme which is well worth looking into if you haven't already
