always a little ways more difficult as a 'lefty' as there is not the same range of clubs to go at

but just starting off along with clubs would try to find the $'s to book a range of lessons with a PGA pro
often times if you book a block of say 6 you can get a deal (pay for 5 that kinda thing)
book say the lesson schedule so it's one every two or three weeks - so you get time to practice between the lessons, that's real important
then you have a much better chance of not falling into real bad habits that the longer you go with will be a bunch harder to get out of
folks pretty good a games and stuff that they just always were able to pick up naturally assume golf would be no different but it usually doesn't work out that ways for all but a very small minority as golf is such a counter-intuitive game - unlike tennis you don't hit up to get the ball in the air and all that kinda of stuff
so though it may seem to start off an unnecessary outlay, lessons at the very start will save big time in the long run

with the clubs look for 'game improvement' type clubs so some kinda cavity back slightly larger clubhead type design - check with the pro they usually would have a club/s that you could borrow for the lessons - then make a buying decision a few lessons in maybes with the Pro's advice
don't get anything with stiff shafts look for regular flex

as long as, at 6', you don't have either real long or short arms 'standard length and lie' clubs should be okay but that's where talking at lessons with a Pro who also fits clubs would help to get some advice
and also you could always go to a large golf retail store to get 'fitted' for irons just make a note of the club length/lie etc. and have a look at what kind of game improvement irons you like the look of as it also has to fit the eye - you not obliged to buy at the time of the fit - some will be free assessment but others may have a charge

then if got a reasonable handle on what you need re- fit have a look at re-sale outlets say like your golfbidder {if uk based} at clubs that are a couple years old (less to go at as a lefty but should still be some good stuff there would guess) if you look at the main manufacturers clubs like say ping, titleist, taylormade, cobra etc should hopefully be able to find some good stuff that even though 'used' are often a bunch better than a lot of cheaper starter sets
though little cheaper newer stuff like benross and MD golf make some reasonable stuff at a pretty reasonable price
