Depends on what you mean by proper engine. I admit I sneered a little when my wife got the GTi a few years back. 1.6 turbo petrol with not a great deal of torque (relatively) when I had a 3.0 V6 twin turbo petrol. But jeez was that GTi a superb car to drive. That engine defied belief (and probability that it could propel that wee go kart at that rate) and was as smooth as I have driven.
If they use the same power plant in the new GTi then it will be a seller and a proper wee hot hatch.

I've been with Peugeot now for two years. I've seen less problems in that time than I saw with Nissan.Nice but it's French tat, so will fall apart in a short while......

Car is expected to be in the UK dealers by the end of summer. Final lineup hasn't been confirmed yet but I think we are going to get 3 x 1.2 petrol engine with varying bhp figures, a diesel and an all electric at launch. I wouldn't be at all surprised if they introduced a GTi version, but that could be a year or two away

That's interesting. I used to be a big fan of Nissans but don't like any of their current vehicles, sound like it a good job I don't. Currently in a Mazda 3. Zoooooooooom !!!!

If it's anything like the original 205, bits will be falling off the insides within 2 weeks of it leaving the dealership, will be flimsy and rattle like hell.

Have you seen what they sell for now? turning into a proper collectors car! I had a 1986 1.6gti and loved it! Great fun car!
