Just a quick introduction.
Hello my name is Aaron, im 23 from norwich.
I have recently taken up golf again after a 7 year break, I started young at the age of six and played regularly up until the age of sixteen. I was a regular winner of junior competitions at Costessey Park Golf Club (Norwich) from the age of ten, but with a handicap of around 30 I was just living up to my nickname 'the bandit'. I remember shooting 84 once for net 54 But that was a one off.
I gave up when my grandfather died, which coincided with my fathers health going down hill, and these were my regular tutors/playing parteners so I kind of lost interest.
But now im back with a vengance and im remembering how addictive this game really is.
I would love to join a local club but im not in a financial position to do so, so im just fitting in one game a month or so with my brother. After a bit of practice im playing far better than I ever have, my last few rounds have been in the 83-87 kind of range but my ball striking has felt great. Im a big hitter, and fairly consistent too. It's just my chipping that lets me down but it'll come good soon. I'll just have to save up for that membership.
Oops, so much for the quick intro.
Im looking forward to picking up some good tips, maybe even sharing some too.
Welcome to the forum. I'm sure I'll recognise you at one of the forum events. You'll be the one in the huge sombrero. Glad your back into your golf now and hope you can start to play regularly. A short game lesson will probably be a quick and cheap route to lower scores
Hi Jammydodger, Do you play at Costessey? or elsewhere?
I haven't seen the course for years as i've been playing on a green fee at Bawburgh and Wensum Valley lately.
I play Weston Park , the best course for miles bar none. Bawburgh is a nice place to have lunch , often pop in with HID and sit overlooking the 18th. It will be interesting to see how all the changes work out in the next few years as its a possibility to join there as its only 2 mins max from my house.
Havnt played Costessey this year so couldnt comment ont the condition although the grapevine says it plays ok when its dry but suffers when wet.
I'd love to play Weston Park, I've heard a lot of good things about it.
I wasn't too keen on the changes to Bawburgh, The new 2nd and 3rd aren't really mature enough to be in play yet. You have to tee it up off the fairway still and it's very open to the elements, I did drive 10 yards short of the green on the 370yard par 4 3rd though (down wind). Also it's a huge trek from the 1st to 2nd tee and all in all it messes up the whole round as the holes are now in a completely different order thoroughout. We got lost first time round.
I do love the 18th, probably my favourite hole on any course i've played. It's a pity they aren't all like that.
I know what you mean about the layout , I played it about a week after it opened and shot 72 gross (bogey on last) but we were getting a bit lost between greens and tees (helluva walk)
Once youre up and running then youre more than welcome to come over to Weston for a knock.
