Having brought a titleist 913 driver back in the summer, I have been really struggling with consistency off the tee. Normal bad shot is a snap hook. Been having lessons and working on what the pro has been telling me, my iron striking has improved massively but still struggling with the driver. I have been to the range and played around with lofts and lies but still no closer to where I used to be when I played before (was generally pretty straights)

went on ebay and saw a pro force v2 shaft with the surefit adapter and thought what have I got to lose, it arrived yesterday and I gave it a try at the range last night. Wow. What a difference, there was still the odd block but no snap hooks and a much more penetrating straight ball flight. Let's see if it translates to the course on Saturday, stableford to play in!

anyone else found shaft selection to be a massive potential game changer?

Glad it's working, golf is such a mental game!

I think that is unfair, implying that the difference is just psychological. Different shafts clearly have different effects.

I was fitted for a 913 by Titleist, courtesy of GM. I was hitting flat hooks with my previous driver. Clearly that was due to the swing I was putting on it, but I was interested to know if I could get a straighter flight by compensating for some of the swing errors.

The Titleist fitter watched a few drives, took some readings and offered me a starting shaft choice. It gave a ball flight exactly the same as my other driver. So he switched shafts and the flight improved markedly. He explained that I took the club sharply inside and closed the face through impact (which I knew) so with low torque tip stiff shafts, the club face was always pointing left and hooks were inevitable. The shaft he switched me to had more torque so the face sort of hung back a bit and didn't close so fast, so the ball went straighter. He then offered me another shaft without saying what spec it was. The snaps came back. That is another tip stiff, low torque shaft, he said. So we went with the higher torque shaft, and set the club face in the open position, and I am still using the driver two years later. Best driver I have ever had.

shaft is everything!

Yes.

Swapped the stock Kai'li in reg flex to a Graphite Design Tour AD YSQ 65 shaft in my 910 and I'm not only straighter, but longer too.

Go figure :D

Even though I got fitted for my Bertha and had the fitting confirmed at the Kings of Distance day I still struggled at times to get any sort of results with the Fubuki stock shaft.
I'd used the X2Hot fairways with some degree of success - they have the Aldila Tour Blue in them.
So I happened to find a Tour Blue shaft on ebay , fifties it and the results are night and day.
The only way I see the right side of the fairway ( or rough!) is via a block - no slice/fade at all.
A few hooks but I seem to be overcoming that too now.
11 out of 12 fairways hit today - 8 from 9 with the driver
Gotta be happy with that.

A shaft cannot turn a bad swing into a good shot, it might once or twice a year... maybe.

The right shaft (or shafts as probably many would do the same job) can take a game up a notch if it is really not suited to a players GOOD swing.

I know that going from a stock regular to a stiffer, shorter shaft made a big difference.

I do agree with going and getting fitted, it surely prevents you putting in the wrong shaft but it is not really going to make you better!

In other words, it is better to get fitted and tested than not!
