Wow. What a disappointment.

I had a whole morning to burn in London on Saturday after staying over Friday watching the Doobie Brothers with my old man.

Thought I'd take a trip over to NB's and spend the morning trying out some clubs and maybe picking up some "accessories".

I have to say, I was very disppointed with the shop.

I did try out two Mizuno drivers, the er..770 and 630. Both very nice and would have been tempted but wasn't.

Had a quick blast with an MP63 6-iron as well. Felt nice, but because the kid who was running the driving nets wouldn't fire up the swing analyser thingy, I had no idea how I was hitting it. It wasn't busy and it wouldn't have been any great shakes for him to do so.

The putter selection was shocking, although the putting area was nice and big. Other club selection was OK but nothing spectacular or more than I would find in my local AG.

I was hoping to get some winter mitts but their selection comprised of a make I'd never heard of and top flite which were thin and not warm at all.

There was almost a redeeming factor - they were selling Srixon Cabretta gloves for buy-one-get-one-free at £9.99. Bargain! Just a shame they had (literally) hundreds of each size from M to XL but absolutely no small.

Overall I was very disappointed in what is supposed to be one of their "big shops" that the range and selection of stuff was so dire. And the prices weren't anything to write home about either.

LOL. Perhaps. But I was actually genuinely thinking about buying a new driver. (It was payday last THursday after all). But they didn't seem interested at all.

I go in there quite a bit and the customer service could be much better. Generally they don't show you much interest unless you seek them out and unless you're a suit they tend to assume you have no intention of spending cash. It's a shame but probably reflective of the fact they get a lot of passing trade. I also think the more experienced staff work during the week when they are much busier with city folk.

its rubbish in there. the only time ive enjoyed it was when the Brazillian beach volley ball team were doing a demo in broadgate circle upstairs last summer. that was grand.

I pop into the Milton Keynes branch now and then, just in the hope of finding something worth buying.
It's a dog of a shop. Virtually nothing in it and evrything at top prices. For example MD wedges on "sale" at £49.99....
Bargain eh?

Yea definitely do that.

Infact there are NO good golf shops in central london.

The other two are Lillywhites (actually not *too* bad for some stuff) and the "golf sale" shop just off regent street which is advertised by dude is bright yellow hi-vis jump suits. That place is laughable. Srixon Z-Stars "on sale" for £40 per dozen! bargain!

I go to the NB store in Farnborough, and bought my mp 52's there. Good stock and very helpful.

Lillywhites is terrible for "golf knowledge" but if you know what you're buying they have some pretty good prices on some stuff. They were selling some proquip stuff in there on Saturday for a good price. Trousers for £35 and jackets for £50.

The only place I can recommend for club fitting is Urban Golf at South Kensington, Smithfield or Soho.

Their club fitting is second to none and the guys that run the place know the equipment inside out.

I think your forgetting the running costs and overheads of a central London store. They must gave a higher break even point that most if their other shops so it wont be cheap, like anything in central London convenience comes at a premium and your paying a charge for it. More rural shops with lower over heads will and can be more price aggressive
