The inconsistency of a 25 h/c

A few weeks ago whilst watching one of the USPGA tournament on TV the commentators were talking about a golfer who after 14 holes had only two par hole the other’s 12 holes were littered with birdies and bogies.

Well on Saturday I went one better. I had 8 holes were I scored 3 points, 6 holes were I scored 1 point, 3 holes were I blew out and just 1 hole were I managed to play the hole in Nett par. 32 points.

I hit 6 out of 13 fairways (46%) (missed 2 by about 2 feet)and had the impressive 2 out of 3 sand saves (67%). The one that I missed, well that took me 3 to get out of the bunker.
My yearly stat on sand saves is about 20% so its not like I am a bad bunker player.

Our track is considered quite difficult, but can I get the consistancy to tame it and improve my h/c, not yet but it wont beat me, well not yet any way.

So where's it going wrong then, playing off 14 even if I have a GOOD day I rarely hit that many. Played 9 holes Saturday, driving well but only hit 2 out of 7, although like you I missed a couple by a very small margin (and one of the holes is almost impossible to hold the fairway anyway, such is the slope) and I was hitting my tee shots (Driver or irons) pretty well, I just couldn't do anything else, had one par for the 9 holes, entirely down to my short game, which wasn't helped by my dad announcing on the first tee the greens were like a greased ice-rink and to be fair they're were reasonably quick but nothing uncontrollable but the damage was done by then, I couldn't hit anything around the greens hard enough to get to the hole!

I wouldn’t worry about how many fairways you hit etc, just enjoy playing!

You can get to caught up with stats and handicap ( I do too) , but sometimes you just need to look at enjoying the game. Someone told me you are only supposed to play to you handicap a few times a year anyway.
If you want to get better work on short game especially putting. I played with a 3 handicap in the semi finals of the club match play recently. I drove the ball 50-60 yards further than him on every hole you needed the driver and didn’t miss a fairway, where as he did. Didn’t make ant difference to the outcome. Once he was inside 100 yards on his approach he was never more than 10 feet from the pin with shots to the green and pretty much sank everything inside 10 feet to boot. Lost 4 and 3 after being 2 up at halfway

Thanks guys, but the post was about the inconsistancy of a 25h/c which we are expect, I do as well, but it can get so frustrating some times. EIGHT 3 POINTERS!!

I like to think that I manage our course quite well, I only take a wood out on 7 of the 13 driving holes. (3 wood x 5: 5 wood x 2) of these 7 drives 4 found the fairway.
The other 6 holes I use anything from a 4 iron to a 9 iron.
Many of the people i play with in competitions cant figure me out, some have seen me score 15 points in 6 holes and then our course bites you bum, many say I should be off 18 -20

As for enjoying the game, well I have been a member now for about 18 months and I can honestly say that I believe I have only had one round that I didn't enjoy
Actually on saturday I enjoyed it so much, that if it wasn't for another engagement in the afternoon I would have gone around again. I can not get enough of the game.

As for stats, well i like them but, I dont get to hung up with them as you have to look at them over time. I just remembered my scores from when I put my scores into scoresaver (or whatever its called) yesterday.

Ah, putting. the best part of my game, although I did let 3 get away from me on Saturday, all in the 5-7 foot range. Only 1 three putt, and 31 overall.

Its just those 2 or 3 shots per round that at our place means your dropping a provisional ball all the time.

But thanks guys, perhaps even more patience is required.
