National Anthem

Following on from the VE Day thread, it got me thinking how much I dislike our current National Anthem and think we should have "Land of Hope and Glory" instead.
What do you think we should have, or do you think we should keep as is?

LoHaG, rousing tune but words are a bit Victorian, religious and jingoistic for my liking.
I don't think god had any hand in making me mighty.
Keep the tune, re-write the words and you might have a winner.

I mean, watch this and imagine it at 80-odd thousand at Wembley.

stupid footballers won’t remember the words though. They struggle with God Save The Queen as it is.

I don’t care what the lyrics are, an anthem should be just that, anthemic. Rousing and those singing or hearing it should enthused.
GSTQ is dull.
The French, Italian, Scottish etc get fired up by their anthems at sports events, GSTQ sounds like a massive downer for crowd and players alike.

Land of Hope and Glory is a wonderful rousing tune, but even a staunch patriot like me concedes the lyrics need an update for 21st century.

The 'problem' with God Save the Queen (King) is that it's not played/sung in its entirety - some of the other verses lyrics are actually ok.........although the line about crushing rebellious Scots would cause upset.......or maybe not to some!!! ????

As for me, I do not want to be supportive of that.

My stock answer for this is... Whilst Freddie was still with us should've got him to knock up an anthem for us... Writer/co-writer of some of the best rock anthems ever...
