It pains me to make this post, it really does, but I need to vent my anger to someone else who understands as he doesn't want to listen to me.
My brother got me into golf about 4-5 years ago and, being brothers, the rivalry soon started between us. That said it used to make me proud when he used to win comps in our society etc. It got to the stage where I was briefly better than him last year which I dont think he liked at all lol.
He joined a club 2 years ago and, for the last 8 months, has been playing consistently 3-5 times a week and his handicap has dropped from 18 to 12, but this is where it all goes wrong.
I played with him last week round his track and he shot a gross -2, this after shooting gross -1 and gross +1 earlier in the same week. Watching him shoot the -2 was magical, one part of me was really chuffed for him, one part was jealous and one part set alarm bells ringing.
As we walked up the 18th he told me he was in the matchplay pairs final this weekend and the stableford final next weekend, to which I asked him what his official handicap was now and he told me he was off 12.1, to say I was absolutely astounded by this was an understatement!!
I asked him how his handicap was so high and he just shrugged his shoulders and proceeded to tell me how, in monthly medals etc, if he's not in a position to win he throws the round to ensure he doesn't get cut, then in the next breath tells me how he wants to get his handicap as low as possible
At this point I told him he's contradicting himself and if he has any integrity about him at all he should submit his -2 card from the day signed by me to the handicap secretary and see if they'll accept it, at which point he tells me not a chance as he wants as much opportunity to win the 2 finals he's playing in shortly
Is it just me being jealous, or is he bang out of order and trying to cheat his way to getting his name on the board in the clubhouse?????
