Musicals - Likes/ dislikes

Best I've seen, We Will Rock You. Worst, Evita - I was out by half time.

Miss Saigon wasn't bad but wouldn't rush back. Les Mis was urgh! HID and I went with our 2 eldest daughters. Eldest daughter and I were the urgh response. Middle daughter and HID loved it. That said, HID and middle daughter stayed in for the second half of Evita whilst I went for a walk.

Jesus Christ Superstar in the West End twenty years ago stands out for me. We all know the story, but great music and production.

The stage version of the Wedding Singer was really terrible. They didn't use any of the actual 80s hits. Me and Mrs Shark were going to leave after nine holes but decided to see if got better on the back nine. It didn't, it got worse.

First one me and Missis T saw was Blood brothers, we were hooked, loved it. Dirty dancing was another favourite. Grease with Ray Quinn as an oompah Loompah as Danny in lead role was just so wrong. Not been to one for a while.

I'm going to go old school now, My Fair Lady. There, I said it. Classic stuff.

Chicago not for me, Cabaret I would have left at half time but my then girlfriends cousin was in it so I had to endure it all, 42nd Street was hammy but I think that is partly the point.

My mum has seen quite a few and her favourites are a toss up between Les Mis and Phantom. She still has nightmares about Hairspray

The film version of Cabaret is brilliant!

Not a great fan of musicals, but there was a production of On The Town on BBC4 a few weeks ago which was fantastic. Of those I have seen in the flesh, The Commiments was great, Wicked was dull.

Not a musical, but went to see the stage show of Early Doors this week, absolutely brilliant and the show ends with an unbelievably good original song.

The Book of Mormon is undoubtedly the best. It's not even close.

I did like the Lion King though. Les Miserables was ok, but depressing unsurprisingly.

Shrek and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory were total rubbish. For some reason in Charlie they didn't even use the good songs that you know from the film, they wrote new ones that were awful dirges.
Saw Mormon last night. Was really impressed. Funny, cleverly staged, good songs. Would definitely recommend it.

The current version of Fiddler on the Roof is excellent, no hesitation in recommending it.

If you are going, very long first half and no readmission during it because of the way the set is.

My favourite ever is one most won't know "Return to the forbidden planet" . HID and I go regularly to see musicals and we saw the Les Mis concert this week and it was truly fantastic with Alfie Boe, Michael Ball and Matt Lucas and all - no acting but just the songs, so you'd need to have seen the show at some stage
