Mucky weekend in Newcastle

If you get chance, have a trip to Durham. Fabulous city.
Being an ex miner you would enjoy Beamish Museum too.
Me and Missis T had words last night. We went to beamish last year wi ma and pa. same time when we stayed at chester le street castle. She couldn’t remember. 😳

You stayed at Lumley Castle and you didn't play my home course?:LOL:
Exactly. 😖 didnt know it was there. Howrver found the Barbour factory shop in south shields. The north easts finest export. 😁

What a day wiv had. Met some absolutely brilliant people. My kinda people that can talk for England. Went to Tynemouth market. Brilliant. Had me coffee and cake at woods and decided to drive to Blyth. Which turned into driving to Lynemouth an knicking coal off the beach. Which turned into a drive to Cresswell and Ellington. Had a few cokes in Ellington welfare. Met a guy from our village who we have a few friends on facebook. Loved it here and Missis T said were coming back. Pit museum
Nr ellington a deffo.
North east boys and girls. Cheers
“ pet “ for having us. 😘👍

I didn't realise you were coming that far north. Lynemouth is a ropey old place, did you see the numerous horses on your way through? Cresswell has a good dog walking beach, it's our regular haunt. Nice little place with a good cafe, The Drift Cafe, and a popular ice cream shop as you drive into the village. Incidentally that coal will spit like mad. Put it on the fire and sit well back 😁

It's not that long ago that Ellington was a working mine. The miners didn't cover themselves in glory as it's time was coming to a close but that is for a chat in the pub, not for on here. The locals call the welfare The Tute. I didn't understand for a while and eventually just had to ask, they shorten Institute 🤔, doh. An ex employee of ours lives opposite the Tute in a former miners house. It was a senior employees house so it was nearer the mine, great big long front garden and a decent size, for the era. Ellington is an interesting mix of new and also old mining stock.

I'm guessing you are meaning Woodhorn museum. Been there a good few times with my kids and visiting relatives. Good place to visit, be even more interesting for you.

If you are coming back and want to do a little more of that bit of Northumberland then look at staying in Alnmouth, ideally, or Warkworth. I think you'd enjoy a wander around Amble as well, around the pier area.

Pleased you enjoyed it.

(Incidentally, what the heck possessed you to drive to Blyth 😱😱? I take it you didn't stop and kept driving through 😄)

Think our next stay will be north of newcastle. We have friends/ ex neighbours who live in Amble. Was hoping to have a cuppa with MIB but so so busy. Yup it is woodhorn museum.
Typical NCB turning a beach into a pit tip at lynmouth ☹️

Was it not sea coal you found? I don't think it will have been dumped by NCB, it is found on the beaches there. May be wrong but I think that is what you found.

LT ITS kicking off on a fb group am on. Some think its not coal at all. I think it is coal what has been washed up. The beach near Lynmouth is disgusting the way the NCB have left it. Coal waist and mining scrap just dumped. ☹️
