Mrs/Miss Dr Who

I began watching Dr Who with Jon Pertwee and then Tom Baker. I suffered through Sylvester McCoy. I watched it when it came back with Christopher Ecclestone and David Tennant. Now it has turned to utter utter crap. Thank you BBC for ruining what was the best longest-running sci-fi show in history. Take your political correctness and shove it.

I'll probably regret this but why is is now politically correct?

Sometimes programmes need t make a bold decision. I don't think Dr Who has worked for the last two series and this is a way of getting new viewers, generating interest and at the end of the day why not. For those that do watch regularly, we came close with Doctor/Donna so is it really that big a leap of faith from there?

Cracking appointment! It will definitely add a different dimension. Imagine the old brigadier having to deal with a woman! I haven't watched one right through since Tennant but I'll definitely give it a punt. Well done BBC for stepping away from stereotyping.

It's funny how people who accept a shape-shifting, time-travelling immortal character are unable to accept female lead for that character in a television show.
I thought Michelle Gomez as Missy (nee The Master) in Doctor Who was terrific.

I think the last time i saw it Peter Davidson was the Doctor. So i couldn't care less i wont be watching, nothing to do with the cast.... its crap;)

First episode could be "Gender-sis of the Daleks".

I'm here all week, matinees on Tuesdays.

It is different to the PD era. For the new series the writer / director is changing so I am hoping it goes back to a bit of old school Dr Who. The best of recent times was the David Tenant / Catherine Tate combo. Cracking stories, proper aliens, no goo goo eyes at the Dr.

I'd go with that. I thought Catherine Tate was an excellent companion.

so going back to the old school could be back to how it was when PD was in it? LOL

Its Dr Who, not Mr Who - so why not a woman?

I don't watch it personally, but good on the BBC for attracting some good PR on a show that surely has a limited shelf life.

I enjoyed the basic premise of Dr Who back then. Alien threatens lives, Dr saves the day. Recent stories have got too up themselves for me. What the modern series has done has improved the sets and monsters through better CGI and make up etc. No more rubber monsters, no wobbly sets. Some of the recent series and episodes and series have been top notch but not consistently so.
