You said you agreed with D4S, who was saying that all that mattered was whether you are male or female and this should determine your title (at least that's how I read it). But male v female is a biological distinction and isn't necessarily relevant to whether your title is Mr, Mrs, Ms or Mx, which is determined by gender (which are more often than not aligned, but don't have to be).

So apologies for not being able to spot your deep understanding of the subject based on your posts.

I agree that you don't need more than a surname and initial to book a ticket, but on the other hand, why does it matter what someone's title is? Why shouldn't someone be able to choose their title based on what they consider to be their gender? Personally, I don't think it's necessary to do away with titles altogether. It isn't difficult to add an option (Mx) that allows someone not to fall into a category that is clearly one gender or the other, all other bases are covered already, are they not?

For men it is very simple. Once you get past 16 you are referred to as Mr. Should females drop the Mrs and simply become an all encompassing Ms? Would that simplify matters? Incidentally, regarding the Mx, how is it pronounced? Is it literally, M-X, ie M-X Lannister, or Mex Lannister or in an entirely different way that flows off the tongue a little easier?

Mental. Just another case of pandering to those who feel the need to be offended by something. There are children sleeping in cardboard boxes, parents who can't afford to feed their kids, and people are worried about a title on a letter. Seriously tempted to apply for a manned one way mission to Mars. Anyone know if there's any good golf courses up there?:rolleyes:

Bisexuality is a thing, you know, some people are attracted to both genders.

Others try to deny their sexuality but they can’t change it or choose it.

If you think it’s a choice try thinking back to when you made the conscious decision to be straight/gay/bi, whichever you are.
 
On the OP it seems entirely harmless to me if somebody wants to be “Mx” but too many people are outraged at the thought instead of adopting a “live and let live” attitude.

No idea how to pronounce it though!

I'm with you, why does it matter if someone that doesn't feel like they fit into any of the other boxes wants to have this option?

I have a 15yr old daughter who updates me on various definitions, what is now determined as correct and what is not. Some I agree with, some leave me bemused. We have good chats about it though so both of us can see both sides of the argument.
 
I shrug. If that's what they want to do the they can. If nobody wants to tick the Mx box then nobody will tick it, what difference does it make to those who don't recognise it as a valid title or don't consider themselves an Mx. Getting irritated over this is making a fuss over nothing.

No such problems for dogs. No one ever asks if I am Mr Sweep or Miss Sweep. I am just Sweep.
