What a great discover this was.
I have AOL (yeah, I know) which is sooooooooo slow so I was delighted to find Mozilla. Much faster, easy to use and I can get my email there too...
But.....
Type somthing in the URL box to search and oh dear.......
Unbelievabley bad.
It couldn't find an elephant in a phonebox.
So I now have BING in the toolbar and use this instead.
Shame that Mozilla let themselves down with this one problem.

Or am I missing something? :D

I use Firefox but have downloaded Google toolbar to work in conjuction with it. No problems with searching and my "bookmarks" are in a much more convenient place....along the top (where they should be)!
;)

I like Firefox but prefer the speed of Google Chrome, I cant stand IE as it is so flipping slow.

I think you are missing something. Do you have the "home button" on the toolbar...if not, put it up there and make it a search engine like google. It'll be available in the preferences menu.

I don't use "stick-on" search boxes, although I can see the point.
I set google as home page, open a new tab and search from a full window. Don't know why...always have done.

I suppose if you want your home page to be NOT a search engine, then an add-on bar is good.

I rarely use firefox these days. I've been getting used to IE9, not to use, but to be familiar with.

Most Linux OS come pre-loaded with firefox, it's even on the panel bar for single-click operation. I just install google chromium (the stripped down one) and use that. Regardless, all the browsers these days are very, very well designed and can be made to do anything more or less. I avoid as many add-ons as possible for speed, not because I don't approve - I just don't like endless crap all over the place. On chromium (linux) I have forwards/backwards/reload and home. Simples. :)

Perhaps it is set to search using google 'i'm feeling lucky'.

This should mean when you type in the address bar you get a usual google search.
