My inlaws lived in a farm workers house. The cat regularly used to bring in mice to present to his master still alive and kicking

My FIL took to painting a number on the mice's heads before putting them back in the barn to see if it was the same ones he was catching.

Re-useable trap with peanut butter on ... put in strategic places.
That’s if you don’t mind killing them.

Just checked the box of Raco... apparently expired in 2016... what happens when poison expires? Oxymoron?

Our cat has a habit of bringing in mice completely unharmed and then releasing them. Perhaps he wants his own pet.

They then take up residence behind the fridge and steal the cat's food for sustenance.
Having to drag the fridge out to evict the little b*ggers on a regular basis is getting to be quite tedious.

Another country dweller in favour of spring traps regularly checked
We have a massive loft and it is quite satisfactory to hear the trap going every so often.
Most of our near neighbours have cats and poisoned bait does not work. [on the mice of course;)]

We had a couple in the loft a few years back.
Strategically placed poison worked a treat.
Mrs Imurg vetoed my preferred method of vermin removal as the effects of the flamethrower would have meant moving house.....

We had this problem a couple of weeks ago. They'd bought in a live one at it got behind the kitchen units. Noticed the rice krispie box had a few teeth marks in it so popped a spring trap in there with a lump of chocolate on it. Heard it go off just twenty minutes later ???

Update... so no scratching noises since it ate the (out of date) Raco. Since there is no way to get a refresh, I put some more Raco down. One of those Racos disappeared overnight Looks like he /it/ she is still alive and now under the kitchen cabinet / fridge etc.. bloody nuisance
