Nope. Not 'Dancing The Night Away' kinda stuff. Though what a great intro. But the four wheeled stuff.

Criteria.

Economical, not a fan of typical bland hatchbacks, well screwed together, safe (it is replacing a V70, so the kids when I have them have to be safe), doesn't need to be big, but I dislike small cars, speed not important but handing is kinda important, must last for at least five years, 20k miles a year, don't need anything more than four seats as I'm on my own most of the time. Budget £8k.

Interested if anyone comes up with anything I haven't thought of.

Oh. And I don't like Audis.

Cheers.

Anything with 'CC' in its title is surely a girls car!!??

When I say economical, I meant 50 plus mpg. I say I don't like hatches, but after the V70, I fancy something smaller, but practicalish. If that makes any sense.

My shortlist.
Golf, predictable but oh so common.
BMW 1 Series.
Sirocco. Love the looks but out of reach.
Civic.
Mini Clubman.
C30.
Focus. Same problem as Golf, and probably won't last well over five years.
Same deal with any French alternative.
That's about it.

You wont get a Rocco or clubman for 8k. You would get a 1 series but it'd be either poverty spec or moon mileage at that price.

Sounds like to me you've already made your mind up.

I would rule out the 1 series I had 1 for 2 months 06 reg cost 7800 with 30k on it but got rid last months due to boot space had to take my driver and 3 wood and hybrid out my bag just to get my bag in boot and once in you have not much room for anything else. Mayb your golf shoes.

Another vote for the Octavia VRS pd tdi. Had an 08 from new for two years and is a spacious big motor with huge boot and plenty of performance and mpg.

Google the passat cc...you'll soon regret saying that!...it's not a convertible but a four seat luxury version of the passat.
