Depending on what code they're using to perform the test, Chrome has better performance results on Javascript and Flash compared to many of the other browsers, which could explain some of the differences in results.
The only "real" way to check link speed is to log on to your router and check. Even then the results may fluctuate depending on the time of day or other ISP reasons.
