I recently migrated from Sky BB to Plusnets unlimited Fibre Optic BB. Line tests prior to installation by both Plusnet and BT informed me that I would get speeds of "up to 78Mbps" on Plusnets 80Mb package.
I use Firefox as my browser.
Over the last month I have carried out numerous speed tests (via Firefox) using both Plusnet's speedchecker and BT Wholesales own, and both of these are telling me I am "averaging" about 50Mbps. I have been in contact with Plusnet who have carried out a number of tests and assure me that their equipment (and BT's) is showing that I am getting 76Mbps. A BT Openreach engineer is calling round today to check the equipment out for me.
But if I carry out a speedtest using either IE as my browser, or Google Chrome, these both indicate I am getting downloads speeds of over 70Mbps.
Now obviously it would appear that Firefox is slowing things down a bit, but even after disabling every add on or extension that I have with the Firefox browser, except "flash player" (which I need to run the speedtests) my download speed is still only showing at just over 40Mbps.
I know the simple answer is to stick with either IE or Google Chrome as my browser, but I much prefer the layout of Firefox as far as "favourites" etc. are concerned.
Has anybody got any ideas????

Speaking as someone who has a download speed of 6, I wouldn't mind an increase to 40, but unless I'm streaming videos, I doubt I would actually notice much difference,

As to the OP I am also having problems with Firefox 19
Firefox will freeze for between 5. & 10 seconds every few minutes, Internet explorer is fine by comparison

However using speed test , I'm getting the same speed readings in both Firefox and IE so can't suggest anything apart from waiting for the next Firefox update

log onto therouter 192.168.1.254 (for a bthub not sure of plusnets) this will tell you your sync speed in advanced options/internet/connections (might be different for fibre)

this will show your sync speed to the exchange, any differences are either profile related or own equipment/software

I had an issue last week where my sync was 16mb but speedtest was less than 2mb. Its sorted now to an extent but still plays up daily.

let me know what the engineer says, there is some issues with certain fibre hubs with BT but not sure about plusnet.

Thing is Phil, if you went into a greengrocers and paid for 1kg of grapes but only got 750g you'd ask where your other 250g were wouldn't you???

Of course, but if IE and chrome are Ok, then it's a Firefox issue which isn't anything to do with your ISP
So not sure what they are going to do except confirm that it's ok at point if delivery

If it was bad on all browsers, then fair enough

Stop whingeing Smiffy.

It took me 3 months to get BT to take some action and get me up to my current massive speed of 0.49.

Trouble is, if they find out the problem isn't hardware related they are going to sting me £60.00 for the callout

Rob , you have already diagnosed the problem, it's Firefox
If it was the router or line issues, then chrome/ie would also show slower speeds

Either call the engineer off or get yer wallet out

Who's whingeing?
If you ordered a set of irons and still couldn't play very well .....???
It's not their fault you are choosing a package that gobbles resources when there are alternatives that don't.
;)
I think the irons analogy is appropriate.
I'll amended the quote to indicate why!:D
