I arrived at Moors Valley on Sunday at 11:30ish with a 12:04 tee time already booked.I had a chat with the shop assistant for a couple of minutes and as no one was booked before me i got my gear together and headed to the 1st tee. Looking on the 1st tee It didnt really look that impressive a 312 yard short par 4 with a slight dog leg right. with a few trees and 2 medium sized bunkers aimed to stop people shooting straight for the green. I was told beforehand by a mate of mine that the first hole was the worst on the course and i have to agree with him. I got a par and was off to a good start.

The 2nd and 3rd holes are both longish par 4's and i was caught out on the 3rd trying to take a bit of a short cut off the tee and got a nice rebound off a tree. The 4th was the 1st par 3 at 180 yards and 3 big deep bunkers guarding it and a slope on the back of the green is quite a big challange as a mishit leaves a big challange to save par.

The 5th and 6th are both par 4 dog legs at 483 and 468 yards and the 7th is a 498 yard par 5 with a ditch running across at about 200 yards out.

I'm not going to run through the rest hole by hole as i think i have given a good impression of what the course is like.

I think the hardest hole is the 13th which is a 349 yard dog leg right with 3 fairway bunkers to the right of the fairway between 170 and 200 yards from the tee which i was lucky to miss i then sliced a 5 iron and somehow managed to get between the bunker guarding the right hand side of the green and trees to the right of that i then chipped onto the green and 2 putted for a score of 5 which i was chuffed with.

The thing i like about Moors Valley is that there is no easy hole and every hole is a challange in its own right.

The one thing that is a bit annoying is that it is in the middle of a country park and they are public footpaths around the golf course and i even came across a couple of horse riders at one point but it is ideal for anyone on holiday as there is lots to do in the country park and the wife and kids could easily fill in 4 hours while you play golf.

I went round in 112 which i was delighted with as i said beforehand that i would be happy with 120 as it was my first time on a course over 5000 yards.

I would highly recommend this course to anyone visiting the southampton/ bournemouth area as most people in this area consider it one of the best courses around and i have yet to meet anyone with a bad word to say about it and at £12 twilight you really cant go wrong. I would happily pay the £23 normal fee to play it again and am looking forward to going back there.

There was not so much as a puddle when i played on sunday. It must have changed a fair bit since you last played there HH. If your in the area it is definetly one that is worth the green fee.
