Morning all,
Just off on a week's half-term break with the kids next week so you have a week to mull these two polls over and cast your votes.

This month... excluding special treats and outings, how far will you travel for your weekly game, and what are your favourite formats.

Your help and thoughts are, as always, much appreciated

20 miles max travel for me and much prefer a friendly 4bbb, or a serious medal, not a huge fan of any other format (although a scramble can be a good laugh in the right crowd)

I travel 15 miles to my club but would go further if necesary.

I like medals best for individual play & Texas Scrambles are good fun for team/social events.

But I do like the "best 2 from 4 scores count" events usually employed for charity events.

My home club is around the corner from me, 5 minutes in the car so I don't have to travel far for a normal knock.

I really enjoy texas scramble but my favourite game is yellow peril. The pressure is just excellent when the banter's flowing through the groups and your with a party of 20odd and there's cash/prizes on offer. :)

my local is only about 10 mins but I'll travel almost anywhere (haven't found where that is yet!).

I like medals, (I may be useless at them but . . .) and matchplay is something else, unless you're the one of the wrong end of a hiding, but any format is better than no golf.

Surprised to see the number picking Stableford to be honest. Certainly has it's place but just isn't "proper" golf to me when a 10 counts as a double bogey.

We play in fourballs and always have a friendly 4BBB in addition to the comp for the bragging rights and drinks in the bar.

I am a high handicapper and I love stableford. There I've said it. Burn me, crucify me, flay me alive and cover me in salt and lemon juice I care not.

When you are trying to get better at this game stableford helps build confidence whilst a medal can easily wreck it.

Singles matchplay (scratch not h/c) - the true golfing format
Singles medal - every shot counts and its you against the course

I do like greensomes/foursomes every now and again though and a scramble once a year is a bit of fun cos you can just lash at everything.

Not keen on stableford/bogey/par etc although at the end of the day if its a h/c comp then i'll play.

I wouldnt be happy doing more than 10 miles to my home club as I can be up there 3 or 4 times a week.

Course is 1 mile from my house, I can see the clubhouse from my back bedroom window. Singles medal for me, though being a newcomer I havn't played any other format. I don't like the idea of stableford, I like to know my proper scores. My mate likes to tell all about the eagles he's had in comps and the hole in one he had on a par 4, but in reality they were par 4's and 5's and a birdie on a par 4 where he get's 2 shots. I only count my proper pars and birdies.

Interesting results showing up here.

It's got to be Medal Play as that's what real golf is all about.

Mind you, a nice quick game of Foursomes can be a fun day out as well. If it's good enough for 'The Honourable Company of Edinburgh Golfers' it's got to be good enough for the rest of us ;)

When we go out for a friendly we normally play stableford or a fourball better ball. All our roll ups are stableford, so just feel at home playing a stableford comp. If i had a choice of what format i would like to have a good round playing, then it would be medal.

Before I joined my first club, we used to travel to 3 other courses for a bit of variety. Now my home club is 2 miles away and I wouldn`t want to change where I play now for any other local course.

Scramble is always good fun and you get to play from different positions to where you would normally, but medal is the only true gauge of golfing performance.

I used to drive 30 miles for my weekly round. now it's only 5 miles because i moved closer to my club

our preferred format is BESTBALL-AGGREGATE imho the fairest format to level out widespread abilities.

I agree with Tiger in that Stableford feels more forgiving for us higher handicappers. When I first started playing comps it was always the Medals that I felt intimidated by, whereas I felt a lot more comfortable playing Stableford. The fact that a bad hole could be forgotten about seemed to help. I do however seem to have posted my best scores in Medals and I do find it much more satisfying posting a good score in a Medal comp.

As for distance, my local is a 5 minute drive from home and 10 minutes from work, so the range is close enough for a lunchtime visit during the week with 18 holes possible after work during the summer. Happy days :)

I have three courses within a 5 mile radius to pick from,
as I am not a member of any of these clubs, its easy to
phone my mates and have a quick game and a couple of pints
to end the day..
