Mizuno ID Irons

As a 20 handicapper, I have always played game improvement irons, but recently I have had a hankering to try blades ... just to see if I can play them. So I decided to buy a cheap old set on the basis that, if I find that I am hopeless with them, I will have not lost much ... and so I bought these for £42 on eBay, although they have not arrived yet. Does anyone know anything about them, please? Or gamed them in the past?

The NF stands for Nick Faldo, but a large percentage of the photos I find for "Mizuno ID irons" on the web/ebay show irons with a different back ... irons with the name "FALDO" written in full. Also, the irons with "FALDO" written in full are apparently cast, whereas the eBay listing for my version says that they are forged ... not that it matters to me either way. Interestingly, an ebay search finds a few items in the UK, but nothing in the US, so perhaps they were irons specifcally branded for the UK to take advantage of the Faldo name.

from what i could see when i googled ID irons they look like cavity backs and are not blades.

i would have a look for a set of Mp32, very blade like and offer some forgiveness as well. or go for 37 if its the full blade experience you want

Interesting. The seller described them as "cavity backed blades" and a web search shows that Mizuno marketed their T-Zoid irons as "cavity backed blades". I guess that the problem is that there is no set definition of a "blade". Either way, they will be interesting to try.

Yes, I saw that ... I think that they were the ones with the word FALDO in full across the back.

T-zoid Pro II's are nice irons although don't expect to get great distance with them, I've recently gone from 'Zoids' to cavity backed GI irons and have gained about 25/30yds in the process...

You'll probably not like my honest opinion but here goes...
I'd cancel the order pronto if I were you, sounds like a crock of s..t.

Then I'd buy a single 6 or 7 iron forged blade, Mizuno MP (players irons) and hit a few buckets of balls with it, chips & half shots.
Maybe even swap it for your normal one for a while.
If you like it then invest in a proper set custom fit to you.

Blades have a sweet spot, hit that and you'll love them...
but miss it and you'll be looking for new irons right away...

Strongly advise that you do NOT buy a 2-3-4 iron blade unless you play off less than 5!

I had pro II back in the 90's, for about 7 years. Probably played some of my best golf with them. Quite how they stack up with a modern set, who knows.

I never mind an honest opinion ... but no can do, as they are on their way. However, as I said, only £42 and no postage and so nothing much lost if they are crap ... and I can easily flip them. I like the idea of a shorter iron to try and may well do that. Thanks.
