Mice!

I discovered that I had mice in our garden shed so, today, I've cleaned the whole thing out and blocked off the hole they'd made in the floor.
Now, I'm sitting in my conservatory and I can see at least three of the little sods running around the outside of my shed so, tomorrow, it's off to Robert Dyas for some mouse traps.

Now, my dilemma is, do I get the old fashioned mouse traps that snaps their necks in two or do I get the humane ones that trap them and allows me to release them at a later date?

If I get the humane ones, where do I release the caught mice?

Please advise.

If you can see mice, there are loads more. Good old fashioned traps are the best. Loaded with peanut butter. Good luck.

mars bar on traps works wonders, got 3 in an hour in my garage. Thing is you have to get rid or they will end up foraging in the house as well

Well atleast it was the shed, we had them in the house!! Got under the house and up through the floor boards. Went to feed my dogs, the food is kept in a swing bin on the conservatory. Scooped some up and thought something moved. Went back for second scoop and one was in it! Just about jumped out my skin!!as the level of food had dropped they couldnt get out! Used the old fashioned ones and got the council in job done!! Luckily just a small family of them!! Not nice.

Take no prisoners, they are vermin where ever they are . No time for sentimentality , good old fashioned trap ,clean kill, job done.
Although the new plastic traps are better than the traditional ones , less likely to take your fingers off and easier to clean . Good luck

Recently had mice in the garage and loft.
Tried conventional traps but to no avail.
Put poison down and they were gone within 2 days.....

we tried humane traps for an odd one or two in the house, they had more homing instincts than pigeons when taken a half a mile away. Not sure blocking one hole is much of a deterrent

Might also be worth getting some bait bowls (and rodent bait) - if you dont have kids or pets that can access the area. The idea is that the rodents take the bait back to the nest as food and it kills them all off.

Get a cat. I had mouse trouble but now have two lovely cats. On the rare occasions I now do see a mouse it is never the full thing.

I have a Mouse problem in my Cider shed, I store old bottles in Cardboard boxes in there and and the mice just rip the boxes to shreds as well as eat the apples while they are softening up for crushing in autum.

I put a lot of traps down and that just thinned the numbers, not sure i will ever get rid of the little buggers.

Get a cat. I had mouse trouble but now have two lovely cats. On the rare occasions I now do see a mouse it is never the full thing.

The only reason I ever get mice is my cat brings them in and then loses them under the furniture.

Make sure they aren't Dormice, as I had these in my house over winter and was told I couldn't do anything due to protected status.

I would suggest hitting them with a golf club Dave,... however.....


they'd probably escape whilst you're going through your pre-shot routine

Our next door neighbor used humane traps then released them at the bottom of her garden. She wondered why she wasn't getting rid of the mice in her house until we pointed out that she was probably catching the same mice over and over again

Use the old fashioned 'Little Nippers' baited with peanuts or chocolate ......... :thup:

If you trap them alive you need to release them at least half a mile away or they will be back. The ones you see are the tip of the iceberg- if it's the same as with rats then there are another 9 for every one you see.....

Well, I've laid down two 'retro' traps in the shed and two humane ones outside in the garden. I can't really put down the retro traps in the garden as I've got dogs.

I've caught one already in the humane trap so tomorrow it's a trip to the local park to free Mickey.

Oh, and I've noticed that the little sods have tried to eat their way into the shed after I blocked their entrance hole (that sounds a bit rude........)

Do it in the nastiest way possible, and let them know you ain't mucking about.
Had a mouse in my house once, put the old mousetrap down with the sweet temptation of a Cadbury's chocolate button and was caught within a day. Left the body outside so the rest of his little buddies knew not to come barging round my gaff, no mice since!
