This is a question possiby asked quite frequently however, Im thinking of joining a club to improve my game as it seems the most cost effective thing to do. Now (this is the however part), fees are not cheap to come by especially in these economic times.

Do most or all clubs have a repayment scheme of some sort or do they expect to have the money up front?

I have looked around my area Whitley Bay, Tyne and Wear and the only ones I can seem to find are newbiggin and longhirst. Both seem appealing Newbiigin links course and longhirst American style with 2 courses. But they are about 30-40 mins drive.

I dare say you will find that the vast majority of clubs barring only the elite of the elitist are now accepting payments of yearly subs via direct debit. You should also find the vast majority have scrapped or at the very least significantly reduced the joining fee.

I know of at least 6 clubs near me that have scrapped the joining fee in the last 12-24 months.

There are good deals to be had now!

My club allows you to play over ten equal DD payments or you can pay via CC (with a handling fee) or you can pay one lot in March and the balance in June. We do have a joining fee but at the moment it can either be paid in full, in two parts (I think I'm right with that bit) or deferred and paid with next years full subscription.

If I was looking for a course it would have to be playable all year (within climatic reason) and be a challenge every time. I'd need regular competitions (drawn) and a good practice facility. Membership needs to be friendly and welcoming to newbies and the 19th should have a good bit of banter in. The clubhouse would have to be tidy without being oppulent.

Yes I am picky but it is a huge financial commtiment every year and so I want my moneys worth

the club that i am going to be joining, dont do the normal membership fees.

you pay £200 membership which is for life, then you get cheaper green fees, and when you pay for rounds you get points which can them be redeemed for rounds during the week.

Our fees have to be paid by the end of January if you are paying in one go. You can also pay by DD over 10 month`s. We have a joining fee which can be paid over 3 years.

So the general consensus is that clubs will offer some form of payment plan but may not advertise it on the website etc?
