Members complaining

I think that there are two different things being talked about here. Moaning is one thing, we all do it and it is cathartic to have a bit of a whinge every now and again.

Complaining is another thing and to me is when a moan is made formal by being raised in writing or specifically with the relevant committee etc.

Moaning can be disregarded but complaints need to be addressed. The complaint may not be justified but a formal complaint needs to be looked at and responded to. Take my club for example. For too long people have been ignored and now it is starting to come home to roost. Membership is down substantially. Take the points that I have been mentioning on here for the last few months. Raised them with the club but no response so I have done exactly as the OP suggested and gone elsewhere and another 4 from my group are off as well.

Any business ignores complaints at their peril at the moment. If you deal with it well you have a customer/member for life but ignore it, treat it as trivial or brush it to one side and there are plenty of clubs and businesses that will listen.

I have absolutely no time for the guys complaining about the pro being late for the first time. S**t happens. Get on with it. As for the scratch players having a whinge I agree with a lot of comments that if they really have such a big issue with the state of the course why aren't thay going through the proper channels.

It costs a fair chunk of cash to be a member at my club and to be honest with the issues we've had with the greens this is going to be a big year. If the standard of the greens and the course doesn't improve and the club inform members on the problems, and their plans to change things I might well look elsewhere. I don't think I'd be getting value for moeny. I've put my comments in writing already and so feel I've had my moan and the ball is in the clubs court.

Of course it doesn't stop me or anyone else having a grumble. We had a lot of dew on the greens yesterday. Why weren't they swished. Loads of molehills on another. Why aren't they being tackled. I think its an intrinsic part of being a golfer

A) 28 handicappers have as much right to complain as cat 1 golfers. They know problems with bits of the course that proper golfer never go anywhere near.

B) No one should 'complain' about something if they haven't got some kind of suggestion to make about making things better. By all means mention something that isn't perfect, but don't complain if there's nothing that can be done about it.

IE if the greens are bad because they were covered in snow three days ago, don't complain, compliment the green keeper on his success. But if they are bad in the middle of summer coz they haven't been cut, then there is a potential solution you can suggest to inprove the situation.

To put things striaght, the 4 scratch golfers were playing in a texas scramble comp, sort of a dreamteam you could call it. Anyway so after listening to them bitch and moan, they come in with a score of 56 gross, not a bad score considering the coarse and the greens are such bad condition, according to them.
