McIlroy v Ramsay

With Rory McIlroy turning pro at 18yo (is he mad?) and Richie Ramsay having recently joined the pro ranks at 23 I think, my question is who will fare better as a pro?
Ramsay seems methodical and deliberate a la Langer whereas McIlroy is more in the Ballesteros mould where he goes for everything but charges too many putts.
In the modern pro world where rounds take 5 hours etc I have a feeling McIlroy will struggle, whereas Ramsay's patience and Major experience will see him do better. Am I right??

Time will tell !

At Carnoustie I think both of them showed that there was still a large gulf between their position (then) and what would be required in the paid ranks.

Best of luck to both of them as they go down that road.

I learned that Ramsay played off +5 at Royal Aberdeen -inpressive. I once got paired with a +4 player, frighteningly good -put my aspirations of being 'a golfer' firmly to bed!

Ramsey, he held is own when playing with Ogilvy and Tiger in the first two rounds at the Open. Although I do belive that both Woods and Ogilvy reported him for slow play !!!

I think Saltman will be similar to Luke Donald in that he will be patient and learn from his mistakes. I am not as confident that McIlroy can do the same. I just get the feeling he wants it a little bit soon.

Indeed time will tell, It's great to see 2 young guns taking on the world's best players. We can only imagine what it would be like standing on a tee with tiger phill or someone like that waiting to play along with you. I think we'd need a few pairs of boxers with us. I once played with a top amature from here he had played a few walkers cup had even captained it, he also played with old Jack years ago and I was as nervous as hell. He beat me 2 up but I was just pleased to have had the chance of playing with such a colourfull guy. Come on Mcllroy,,,,,,,,,,,,,

McIlroy's playing, shot -3(69) in rd. 1, Ramsay doesn't appear to be in the tournament.
McIlroy's -3 is a pretty good effort I'd say, he's well placed 4 off the lead at the moment. The boy could be proving me wrong!

Saw McIlroy's score yesterday, was impressed. Disappointed with Saltman's showing. Don't know how Ramsay isn't playing?

Read McIlroy's comments on BBC website today saying how if it produces that for 4 days he'll be around the top, then saw he shot 78 today - welcome to Professional Golf!

I hope any British young gun turning pro can do well. It's taken Justin Rose a few years but he's found his feet now in America. I feel it will be the same with Rory, Richie and Lloyd. I just hope they don't disappear.

Knowing Rory's dad Gerry (and his teaching pro is also my pro michael bannon at home in Bangor gc Co. Down) he wont get a chance to disappear, they have had him working hard except for the few days before the Walker Cup as he was carrying an injury. Hes a decent young lad with a down to earth dad who lives and breathes golf. I think hes going to go far, but then again am I biased when I worked with his dad for a few years?? Hell yes!
Still needs a hairut though.

Agree about the haircut, Brendy. But isn't he doing well at the Dunhill LInks? Looks like a nice payday coming along which will ease the pressure for the rest of the year. Think he'll go from strength to strength if he gets a top ten there.

3rd is certainly no disgrace, just read the write up on the european pga tour website, paul lawrie has plenty of good things to say about him.
