A few months ago, i loaned my kit to a friend (as his kit was not available). He played a round and returned it. Since I dont play very often, I did not check it. I was moving stuff around in the garage and realised that the putter cover was missing. Checked with him and then with the pro shop and looks like nothing was returned. So he said he will get it off fleabay and send it over. This has been conveniently forgotten.

Played with him a few weeks ago and reminded him and we both agreed that he would do it. Still no action. I know he is busy at work but he plays every weekend (unlike me). While a putter cover would be about 10 quid & is inconsequential, it is the matter of principle. I think golf says a lot of you as a person.

I am thinking i will get it off ebay myself and get it to reimburse. Or is it too much of a bother? Decisions, Decisions, Decisions...

Write it off as annoying but leave it there. Buy one, make a point, jokingly, next time you play together that you had to buy this because he was too tight but then let it drop. If he pays you then great, if not just leave it. Is it worth losing your mate over this?

what putter is it? I have an odyssey 2 ball cover (Velcro close) one unused in my garage you can have for the price of postage

If he was any sort of “mate” he would’ve already had sorted it by now.

Never lend him anything again.

I do get that but not all mates are spot on on everything. I have one who NEVER gets to the bar first. Annoys me but the rest of the time we get on well so I gloss over that. Sometimes you have to let somethings go. If it was me then I would have replaced it same day but that's me.

As far as I would be concerned, he's burnt his bridges when it comes to lending gear off you, don't lend him anything again. It's a pain in the ass, but you may as well replace the cover yourself, easier in the long run.

Next time you are out golfing together, I wouldn't even bother mentioning that you have bought a new cover.

Just accept your mate for who he is. A forgetful tight arse with no respect for other peoples belongings.

This. It's a cover at the end of the day. Frienship is worth more than a piece of logoed plastic.

I would just go and buy a new cover and say no more about it unless your mate brings it up, then I would give him the chance to pay for it ,but not push the issue as at the end of the day its only a putter head cover and not the end of the world.

Buy it yourself, and send him a copy of the invoice. Not worth falling out over but don’t lend him anything else.

This. If it had been the putter that had gone missing I'd have been furious and well into him to get it replaced. Annoying as a missing headcover is it's not the end of the world.

Take his and tell him “ my putter is getting marked let me know when you get me one and we can swap.
This assumes his putter is similar to yours.
I know a guy who did just this he had a new cover the next day.
