Match play knock outs... Can they be too friendly?

Chill out and enjoy it, you only need to concentrate over the ball! Think you may be taking this a tad seriously.
Nowt worse than a good round of golf spoiled by some numpty who is 'in the zone' walking ahead or behind and not talking.
If you are not getting paid to play then enjoy it, it's costing you money!

Got the next round of our matchplay singles tomorrow and I'm kinda gutted to have to play a good mate at the club, it is what it is and we are having some banter in our chats., but today he suggested that we get a buggy in our match as it's after work and we will get round quicker,

I said I'd let him know but to me it's not a bounce game, it's a comp man against man with the course as a ref.... And best man to win. I'm kinda leaning against the buggy option think it will just make the match a bit too casual and given this is the 1/4 finals I think it should be treated as a serious comp?

What's your thoughts.

Get a buggy mate but only for you , when you play a Knockout you need space to gather your thoughts at times and set your mind if you down and need to stage a fightback , its a no to shareing a buggy as it invades your personal space ..............gd luck

i would love to play a mate in the club matchplay, bragging rights would last so much longer, you know their weaknesses etc, should be great banter and a highly contested match! Enjoy it!

Most fun match I've ever played in was a foursomes when our whole regular four ball for bounce games were drawn together - best of mates but some incredible sledging went on, starting when the draw brought us out together and continuing in the bar after we won at the last - it was like Cory Pavin at the 'War on the Shore' Ryder Cup at times.

It was a situation that only best friends could have enjoyed and not normal golfing etiquette at all - but everyone played well and competed on every shot - brilliant fun

Nothing wrong with some friendly banter on the way round but once you get to the ball it's time to get serious. In fact, having a mate on the opposition may help and you can switch off completely between shots. You have to have that killer instinct though and play to win

My name is homer, I'm a golfing jungle cat. Hear my roar.................................meeeow:rofl:

its your mate, get the buggy, enjoy the friendly match (it's not your job). You only need to concentrate for about 3-5 seconds per shot, it's not difficult.
