Market leader and why...

Well exactly whats being discussed, the perceived superiority, and you are right, a lot of that comes down to marketing! Because the pro's play XYZ club means they are the best? no. it means its a decent club, sure, but it also means they are 99% of the time being paid to use it. Lets face it, none of the kit you see on tour is going to be crap.

I think however, amateur golfers should be reminded that we are NOTHING like the guys you see on TV. They (majority) are hitting 280+ yard drives, 180 yard 7 irons etc etc and they hit out of the sweet spot 98% of the time! What they use has no relevance to say, me, that plays a couple of times a month.

Your right.
This is why companys that can afford massive endorsement contracts pay
ridiculous amounts of money for pros to play their goods.
We all think because Rory plays it we should be able to and Nike know this.

The question is though if Rory went to Benross would people latch on to that brand.

Just a question to those in the know.
Has Rory enhanced Nikes status in the golf market?
I believe he has especially in the driver market.

My view on market leader, not the best btw:

Drivers - TM
FW - Titleist
Driving Irons - Mizuno
Hybrids - Adams
Irons - TM
Wedges - Cleveland
Putter - Odyssey
Ball - Pro V

Exactly the same for me. :)

I am a fan of Nike golf Irons though. Really clean and classic looks with good performance

My opinion:

Drivers/Woods: TM have clearly bought this market space, they along with plenty of others make decent product, not sure there is anything left for them to do because of the coefficient rules so they are all much of a muchness and boils down to personal taste (and cost) imho

Hybrids: Adams developed a decent rep in this area and offer more variety than any other brands, personally never found one I really liked tho

Irons: Give me my custom build Orkas over any of the OEM brands clubs every day of the week. Look great, feel great, are built to the specs for me (no getting used to them as i see from so many threads on here), gap tests, loft and lie checks, by far the best customer experience Ive had from any golf brand to date.

Wedges: Vokey and Cleveland the main "names" not a huge fan of either. Actually think most of the brands are missing a trick here with too much of a one type fits all model, am looking to try out the ICY ones here in the next few months (based on some reports on here)

Putters: Definitely a personally choice thing, am a huge fan of Scottys albeit Im currently using a different brand. Again think the custom build area got plenty of room to expand here

Ball: Yep Titleist have bought the number 1 slot here. For 99.9% of amateurs there is very little distinguishable performance difference between the premium balls of the main manufacturers, comes down to personal taste (feel mainly) and cost ultimately

I hope to get new irons for my 21st birthday, and if I can I would like to look into Orka as an option as they look class

Looks are a big deal to everyone no matter what they say

Anyway I'd go with
Drivers: Titleist
Woods: Taylormade
Hybrids: I like my Adams one but honestly don't think there's a huge difference between them
Irons: Titleist personal again, but they cover all the bases without flooding the market
Wedges: Cleveland, the most personal aspect of play I think, even over the putter
Putter: Odyssey, once again, cover all the bases for all quality of players without pricing themselves out

The most beautiful Scotty Cameron putter doesn't come off the rack, they're custom built so it's not the same as the still expensive, £220 putter you see in the shop

Ball: whatever really, little difference in the individual markets

It's all personal perspective this

I believe he has especially in the driver market.

If he went to Benross and won tournaments then people would buy Benross. People want to follow success.

I am not in the know but I would have thought he absolutely has enhanced Nike's status. He is a popular bloke with worldwide appeal. He is young and doesn't look like a cliched golfer. Their key man, Tiger, is doing a Duval and they need a replacement. He fits perfectly. Unlike Tiger he can also hit a driver for miles and keep it straight. He hits driver long and straight. He hits irons long, high and straight. Whats not to love if you are in Nike marketing.

I see your point, and kind of agree, but do think the quality of Nike's clubs have gone up in quality a lot over the last few years

Woods doing a Duval? One of the more laughable comparisons

As for Rory hitting it straight, is that why he doesnt get into the top 100 for driving accuracy on the PGA Tour? His driving stats accuracy wise are pretty similar to a certain T Woods, but hey if the marketing tells you differently....

Is that rory stat for this year? When he's played one tournament and hit it terribly?

If ORKA had TM or Callaways marketing budget i genuienly believe they would be in the majority of players bags. Its an eye opening exercise, once you've been fitted for some of their clubs you realise that frankly, no other brand can compete in terms of quality AND attention to detail.

That said, ORKA will be doing some huge things in the coming years...watch this space.

Orka are good irons and good customer service but can't see them being the "market leader" for irons

In 2014 Rory was in the top 20 for total driving, accuracy & distance combined, on the PGA tour. But that is mostly because he's top 10 for distance.

Personally I prefer the little not so recognisable companies then the major OEMs. They are just as good if not better, only budgets and high price points are stop them from competing.

He could be a foot off the fairway and it's still a missed fairway though at the same time, not a bad drive
