Woke up this morning with a pain between my shoulders and a stiff neck.

After a couple of treatments of deep heat I put my under armour on and headed to the range.

I was just going to the locker room to put on my spikes when the club sec asked me if i'd mark two seniors cards as their partners hadn't shown in a better ball stableford pairs. Even offered me the presentation meal.

I obliged but didn't expect to score too well as I was still pretty stiff.

A couple of poor shots on the front 9 cost me playing front 9 in gross par but 38 wasn't to be sniffed at.
Stood on the 17th tee I was gross level for the back 9.
I finished double double for a gross total of 77.

If only I hadn't got ahead of myself on 17

Has anyone else had one of them rounds when they didn't expect anything?

I wish I could market it.

Today, I went back to my old club after an 11 year absence as it is their centenary this year.
Not hit a ball for 4 weeks, and went out and shot a gross 83 (I have been averaging mid 90s whilst having some practice time.
A great feeling!

Played a medal the other week and went out feeling really rubbish and managed to play pretty well. I think sometimes not feeling 100% takes your mind off the golf and it tends to flow much better. That said I chipped and putted like a god on the day so the driving and GIR weren't great but its the score that counts.

Level standing on 17 is a great effort and don't be put off by one bad hole. Now its in your locker you know you can do it regularly

At the start of the season i was asked to make up a fourball,no warm up and hadnt played for a few weeks, hit a 76 (+4) still dont know where that round came from,or went for that matter.

In my competitive days, I was always wary of the player who claimed to have had a long layoff or an injury complaint. Remember Padraig in the 2008 Open - before he got going there was loads of media coverage on his wrist injury...

Conversely, if you start a game with high hopes for a good score after positive practice you can be sure to shoot trash. This game is certainly 90% mental!

After the 1st hole today I had no expectations let alone low ones. Lost 2 balls and blobbed it! After that my game re-appeared, went home momentarily and then came back again and I finished with 38 points - 18 out, 20 back. Galling thing is I finished with 3 bogeys - gross +3 coming home. Played really well for the most part which, considering how I've been playing recently, is encouraging. Oh and I pulverised CVG by 10 points too.
Happy days.

Happy days for pulverising me for finding you game again? Fair play matey you did play well, especially the save off the wrong fairway on the 14th!

Makes a change on both counts!!

Don't forget you're getting used to a new putter and your game wasn't clicking. Still some good holes though and a decent front 9.
