Is it just me that is enjoying the end to competition golf for the year. Don't get me wrong, I love the medals and stapleford comps as much as the next person but it makes a change to be back to the good old 'friendly' four ball. I am really enjoying the bragging rights rounds playing for a few quid, the return of bits, sandies, ferrets and other fun ways of losing a few quid on a Saturday morning and the sheer variety of scoring systems that can be brought out just for a change. The banter seems to be better now as well, after all who wants to be accused of putting someone of during a serious competitive round. I am sure that in a few months time I will be looking forward to the challenge of competitions again (which are pretty much weekly at my club) but, in the meantime, a few months of golf which is purely for fun has come as a welcome change.

We play competitions throughout the year (weather conditions permitting for qualifying purposes) and to be fair I think half the fun is battling against the tougher conditions. Lots of satisfaction to be gained from a cut in a strong wind (OK probably a slight breeze for most of you anywhere north of Luton) or in pouring rain.

I love my regular Satrday matches too especially as I'm on a winning streak lately but nothing gets the juices going more than putting a new ball on the tee and looking down the 1st thinking today's the day.

We still have one comp a month but they tend to be stapleford and we stop handicap adjustments from the End of October to the beginning of April as the course is generally set up shorter, there may be some mats instead of tees and the rough is cut right down.

I agree with the O.P, who wants to risk a hard won handicap trying to putt on temp greens and play off mats/preferred lies. I too love the banter of a fun fourball with dick length gimmies ( open to interpretation, but never yet been asked to prove owt, thank god) If we must play in awfull weather than it's the just for a laugh fourball all the way for me. :D

Agreed. As long as temp greens are not being used and any winter tees are near the normal tee we can still get cut if we perform well but there'll be no more increases untill April.

One more medal in 2 weeks, then it's everything non qualifying til the clocks change. You can't medal on the winter course,, and tbh, course condition is poor, the greens are spiked, why would you want to?
